#NowPlaying - a ground zero for so much, but why so many cowrites for kevin ayers & so few lead vocals? is it like the neil-young's-voice-was-too-weird-for-the-springfield thing or just cuz ayers was the new guy? and how many steps between "we did it again" & oneida's "sheets of easter"? @Corry342@vinylrecords#canterbury#prog
Right, so in a surprise inversion of my recent #Prog posts about double albums that should have been single albums, here’s one that’s long enough for a double but somehow managed to fit on a single CD.
I still don’t understand how this is even possible. I always thought there was a nominal maximum length of 74 minutes for CDs (because Mr Sony loved Beethoven), and a hard physical limit around 80 minutes. First I’ve seen to go well above that… 😲
#ProgTuesday time! Thanks to @DXMacGuffin
Today I'm thinking back to last year when Molybaron was opening act for Soen ... here comes Something Ominous:
#GreatAlbums1980s: #Yes – 90125 (1983). Prog purists got their space blankets in a bunch when Yes committed the ultimate treason of a No. 1 hit with "Owner of a Lonely Heart" – as if they were ever going to remake Close to the Edge (they still haven't). Views have mellowed since, and Trevor Rabin's presence on "Hold On," "Changes" and "Leave It" reenergizes Jon Anderson and a returning Tony Kaye, against the always interesting bass of Chris Squire.
Excellent experiment, fantastic result.
An extremely important album from the 80s, which has demonstrated, once again, how quality pop is a reduction and synthesis of cultured music.
Do Bandcamp pay artists anything for streamed music that the listener hasn’t bought?
I just found an album I really like (that I’ll probably wind up buying from Bandcamp anyway), but I wondered if me listening to it right now, before I buy it, will earn the artist more money on Bandcamp or Apple Music (because I have a paid subscription there)
@BenCotterill wow! That must’ve been a while back. I’ve seen both acts many times, but never together.
Hang on…
I did stage crew for Ozrics when they played Trent Poly in the 90s….and PT were support! So I have seen them together, I just didn’t know it until today 😂
@jerry1970@dprp Dat is geen gek idee. Op het Blender Artists forum zetten 3D'ers vaak wireframes en WIPs bij hun renderings, zodat je kunt zien dat ze het zelf hebben gemaakt.
#23From2023 - #CrownLands – Fearless. Although they over-emulate Rush – right down to opening for Kiss on this year’s tour – the Ontario duo of Cody Bowles and Kevin Comeau capture the scope and thrill of old-school prog like no other contemporary band (far more than the fastidious Steven Wilson or Riverside). It’s worth remembering, too, that even Rush were largely a Zeppelin cop until a few albums in. If this is Crown Lands’ Fly By Night, let’s hope they have a 2112 in ‘em.
@Great_Albums I gotta add another one to the list. Rob Lamothe (Riverdogs) teamed up with his son on drums, James Harper on guitar, and got a bunch of special guests to play under the name Cross Country Driver. Album (The New Truth) came out in March but I'm just hearing about now 😠
I haven't even gotten through it all yet, but this has a chance to be the best thing I've heard in a decade. Mike Mangini and dUg Pinnick played on "Rio Tularosa," which just rips.
