My old maths teacher always said that arithmetic and the fundamentals of finance (interest, tax etc) should be compulsory. Maths which is a really abstract subject on algebraic manipulation should be an option from year 9. I do genuinely use maths in my job but I totally see that I'm a tiny minority.
Also horrified that my kids left school not knowing how loans, banks, foreign exchange and government finance works.
@TenPastTwo@RichardJMurphy I wonder if the government would really want a generation of young people with good financial and statistical literacy. Would make things like austerity harder to sell.
