@coffeentacos This was basically me back when I watched Utena for the first time, except I was comparing it with Revue Starlight. Consider that a recommendation to watch after Utena if you haven't seen Revue yet.

Also, enjoy Utena - it's an amazing experience, albeit with a lot of subtle details that people might miss the first time through.

@coffeentacos If you're watching Utena, I'd recommend checking out Empty Movement, as they have a large collection of Utena stuff.

@coffeentacos I'm actually rewatching Utena after experiencing the movie and the manga. The connection between the two shows is there but Utena will take you on a ride. I hope you end up enjoying it.
