HEY! What are some of your favorite gadgets you got this year? And I'm not talking about an iPhone 15 Pro or whatever... tell me the quirky stuff! Neat products you love and don't think many people know about. :D

@snazzyq Technically it was last December, but I love my Ayn Odin Lite. It’s exactly what I’ve wanted to play NES and SNES games for years. The Odin 2 is a very tempting upgrade, however.

Also, the Anker 747 charger.

@snazzyq

  1. ZEERA SuVolt Gen4, the best magnetic iPhone car charger, it actively cools with a Peltier plate while Qi charging at 7.5W max, perfect for preserving battery health which is killed by heat, and so it charges faster while navigating with GPS and the screen at full brightness, under direct sunlight. I bought every iteration of this charger and every time they make it better. Customer support answered quickly and fixed my issue with a previous charger.

barnabe,

@snazzyq Flipper Zero. Would love to see your take on it.

ebbi,

@snazzyq an Anbernic RG35XX and an Ayn Odin Lite. It’s been amazing revisiting some of my childhood games!

agig,

@snazzyq It's a software that can replace a gadget, it's called Ventoy. It allows a one USB device to boot an ISO from a list. Super easy to use and it's so much faster since you don't have to write the ISO to the drive, just drag and drop it and ta-da!

I remembered you did a video about a USB drive that you could physically choose an ISO before booting, this is like the poor man's version of that😅

@snazzyq it’s not new but the Toto s550e is the best gadget I bought this year. I love it.

snazzyq,
@snazzyq@mas.to avatar

@_german I love mine.

yogurtx86,

@snazzyq , while not the best, it's my favourite watch (of the ones I owned anyway).

@snazzyq USB C to Barrel Plug Cable. No more blocked electricity outlets by overly large power supplies. Just one powerfull USB C powersupply and running multiple devices with it. https://www.adafruit.com/product/5450

mothyseal,

@snazzyq 100% the steam deck. I have actually gone through my steam library meaningfully for the first time in over 10 years... so basically since I started. I usually would only get one game per year on there otherwise and spend all my time on other portable consoles

@snazzyq I got a portable monitor for my Steam Deck, put an adhesive magnet on it to make it MagSafe compatible, and mounted it to a gooseneck stand with a ESR MagSafe mounting plate that I had lying around. Got some 180-degree USB-C adapters to keep the cables tidy and attached it to a rolling cart where I keep my keyboard, mouse and controller. Now I have a modern A/V cart that I can use when I’m sitting in my favourite chair! Lately I’ve been using it for YouTube and Dave the Diver.

@snazzyq The HDMI splitter I got for my TV is quite nice.

Since I have a TV (and a bed) in the same room as my computer with my consoles connected to the capture card, I can use the splitter to choose which output I want the console signal to go to. Computer monitor or TV.

snowracer,
@snowracer@mastodon.melin.org avatar

@snazzyq A little black box that gave my car wireless CarPlay.

jonasclindgren,

@snazzyq Finally got my Playdate. Love it so far

chacon,
@chacon@mastodon.social avatar

@snazzyq an N100 based mini PC (512gb/16gb/$150ish) to replace my Raspberry Pi 4
Power usage is usually around 7-8W, I can run many more services (Scrypted, Home Assistant, AdGuard/Plex/*arrs) and it’s generally cheaper than any once you add case, storage and power supply.

Neat feature: the iGPU handles 4K HDR transcodes without breaking a sweat

snazzyq,
@snazzyq@mas.to avatar

@chacon Nice!

timonus,
@timonus@mastodon.social avatar

@snazzyq haven’t bought one, but the Leatherman Arc looks awesome. Got a Skeletool earlier this year and it’s served me well.

@snazzyq I got a Nebula Capsule projector. It’s tiny and not terribly bright, but it’s battery operated and self-contained, so it’s great for shining a movie on the side of the tent when camping with the 5 yer-old.

@viticci this reminds me: found a dock?

rockitude,

@viticci Do you think you’ll still use the XReal Air once Vision Pro is out? Curious whether it’s worth looking at if I’m planning to get a Vision Pro.

viticci,
@viticci@macstories.net avatar

@rockitude Possibly to play Switch and PC games in bed, yes!

snazzyq,
@snazzyq@mas.to avatar

@viticci @rockitude Love playing the Deck with my Airs.

rockitude,

@snazzyq @viticci Ooo great point. Sadly the Vision Pro will likely never do that.

@snazzyq an ethernet switch splitter. Works like a champ.

CraigBrennan,

@snazzyq A little late to the party but I finally picked up the original Sonos Move on sale. Now I can listen to great sound outside by the pool (or wherever I need it). Very happy with the Sonos.

@snazzyq I bought a house for all my cables, watch straps/tools, batteries, etc. It’s glorious and I want more storage like this.

@snazzyq Flipper Zero? BaseQI for internal mBP SD backup.

SwissMicros DM42 calculator (ok, too quirky/niche). Various EDC pens, lights, multitools. Too many hobbies.

snazzyq,
@snazzyq@mas.to avatar

@jerrod DM42 looks amazing. Must resist the temptation.

@snazzyq It’s a pretty incredible modern recreation of a legendary model.
