lednabwm,

I'm just going to say this.... anyone owning or possessing guns share the guilt for the murder of innocent people. You can rationalize any excuse you want, but it doesn't matter to me at all. You own a gun, and as the song goes:

"Ooh, that smell
Can't you smell that smell?
Ooh, that smell
The smell of death surrounds you!"

hu_logic,

@lednabwm Yeah, no. Problem is not gun ownership.

Problem is unregulated access to cheap guns and lack of liability for selling guns to crazy people.

lednabwm,

The smell of death surrounds you

hu_logic,

@lednabwm Tell me you're a naïve 12 yr old w/o telling me.

But you do you, go solve gun violence with your idealism.

@hu_logic @lednabwm So you say the problem is not with gun owners, but with people selling guns to gun owners.
OK, then logically you should push it one step further: the problem is not with people selling to gun owners, but with people not regulating people selling guns to gun owners.
Conclusion: the problem is the lack of regulation and control by authorities. Need more.

hu_logic,

@oaktree @lednabwm Precisely. When we had Allen Mall shooting here in Texas - our "elected" representatives told us that restricting gun access to mentally-ill people is unconstitutional and they won't even try.

But instead we should start thinking "tactically" and arm ourselves ("purse can be a weapon if thrown at the attacker").

Let that sink in...

hu_logic,

@morecowbell @lednabwm Agreed. And if someone does want to own, say AR-15, then they should go through the background check, mental evaluation, annual training and insurance.

Like any other regulated high-risk activity out there.

    You get the comment... congratulations.

    CatDad,

@lednabwm Yes and no, it really depends, I think that's an overbroad brush. Plenty of other countries have (more limited) gun ownership and don't have our mass murder issues. Lots of us are very responsible gun owners. The sheer numbers plus the toxic US culture seem to be jointly responsible.

The US is that kid that shows they are entirely too immature for the responsibility. I don't really know what viable solution exists though, so I'm no help.

@CatDad @lednabwm the second amendment is quite clear on what the solution is. “Well regulated militia”. The regulated militia is cops and army. Everyone else needs licensing, registration, and insurance — like cars — and barbers.

@nuncio @CatDad @lednabwm Yep. They have access to guns. Locked in armories. Makes sense. Locked in armories.

    CatDad,

@slott56 @lednabwm Sure, Now tell me how that will work in America? You've met Americans, right? You're aware of the rabid neofascist right here? How do you think that will go?

    jlippertcohen,

@CatDad @slott56 @lednabwm The right is filled with crazy people pretending to be tough. They are cowards hiding behind their “big guns”. A well trained and dedicated military is a threat to them. IMO - It’s the reason Tuberville is blocking appointments. He’s allowing the right the time needed to further infiltrate the military.

    CatDad,

@jlippertcohen @slott56 @lednabwm You're going to have to figure out how to survive a SCOTUS ruling as well. As I see it there are two large problems to meaningful gun law changes: a very vocal and motivated public (some of which have no problems becoming violent particularly if their "freedoms" are threatened by evil commies or whatever they're hyped up on), and a right wing SCOTUS that will gut most efforts. One is cultural and shifts slowly, but can shift. The other is also very slow to change, and I don't see much will in elected officials to make drastic changes to SCOTUS size/composition or limiting terms.

@CatDad @jlippertcohen @slott56 @lednabwm almost like before we can address gun reform we have to take serious action on stochastic terrorism which is fuelling mass shootings.
