Disclosure: I was the JSONPath WG’s co-chair, so I care a lot, and

Glyn’s post - https://underlap.org/jsonpath-from-blog-post-to-rfc-in-17-years - is instructive as a newcomer’s take on Internet Standards at the IETF, and

The state of JSONPath in the wild has been hideous, really lousy interoperability, maybe it’ll get better now.
