I got a bundle of GBA SP accessories because I wanted another headphone adapter, but it came with an FM radio cartridge that seemed interesting until I got it and it turned out that it just uses the GBA for power, so it just displays the boot screen forever.
But it is kind of cool in the context of playing tunes while playing something on a DS, where it does still get power and still work. Not that I would realistically do that, though?
@Genstar Yeah that would be cool! And as a bonus you don't have a dongle or anything hanging out because the GBA slot is also doing a job in being a convenient place to tuck the electronics away.
@frost And then there's those "worm light" devices which use link ports for power and make a little bit more sense.
The connector is so funny, it's this really wide thing that's meant to have a bunch of pins but there's just a single pin all the way on the left and all the way on the right and that's it, with a big gap in-between.
@frost It puts out 5v and 3.3v (selectable by, if I remember correctly, a physical switch in the cartridge port that's pressed differently by GBC and GBA carts, which use different voltages) but 1 amp is probably way more current than anything in there is designed to give
