"There is something wrong at the New York Times" --

https://www.salon.com/2024/03/05/there-is-something-at-the-new-york-times/

This is a well-reported, and pretty much conclusive, indictment of the Times' increasingly terrible political journalism.

The Salon piece focuses on super-flawed recent polls the Times has sponsored and touted -- but the rot goes much, much deeper.

"mistakes" are no longer a plausible explanation. Much more likely is willful blindness. Or, and I hope this is not true, outright malign intent.

@dangillmor
The NYT has a long history of supporting right wing extremism and colonialism. It’s only become more obvious recently.

@dangillmor Yep, the New York Times is pretty bad these days. It's as if someone has mandated that they support Trump or something.

@dangillmor the New York Times has long been conservative. You can find articles minimizing Hitler's monstrosity as he wrote to power. It's been for every damnfool war of my lifetime before it was against them.

Now, that said, when the publisher's biases are not in action, its financial resources allow it to fund reporting at a level which few other newspapers can match. But the biases are present.

@dangillmor the is oligarch propaganda, nothing more. Every link, every click, every subscripton helps them.

Stop looking at, linking, reading, or even thinking of them

@dangillmor It's the business model: selling ads. Biden is bad for business. Trump is great for business. And the business model is terrible for all of us.

"Even Phillips himself posted a tweet that said “When the NYT/Siena poll shows me at 12%, you better believe it’s flawed. Only 5% even know who I am.” "
