@jrconlin the bootlicking of people trying to justify their grind. I love having a work phone, because I turn it off at the end of the day. My coworkers have never asked me for my personal information and after reading this article, I feel like I’m the exception, not the rule.
@jrconlin now that I think about it, I’m a senior but licker myself, because I’m part of an unpaid after hours on call and I’m pretty happy about that.
@jrconlin years ago @gnomon and I worked together. The ops team was paid to be on call, and paid per escalation after hours. This incentivized them to not fix problems at the root, because they’d quickly patch issues and collect the overtime. It was awful.
@jrconlin@gnomon now I work at a place where all developers support their teams services via on calls. It incentivizes us to fix our shit during the day so that our rotations are smooth. In comparison this is a huge improvement over my previous employer
