"Let people have nice things," inner-Alex murmurs into my ear as I scroll the morning timeline.

Sometimes it is nice to see someone enjoy something that doesn't make sense to you. I don't personally find benefits or enjoyment in things that are popular at the moment.

The moment is fleeting, seasonally things change, and soon we will go back to the "norm". Once that happens, they won't have anything to enjoy and that makes me slightly sad for them. When the eclipse or March madness or Superbowl season or tax season or new video game patch day occurs...I see many people blister and demand that others understand their personal discontent.

I'm not a fan either, but I tend to spend my energy focused on what I am a fan of. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I don't feel wrong. I feel like perhaps focusing on what you are interested in, is a good way to focus.

@mentallyalex If people listened to this advice, everyone’s social media experience would improve tremendously.

@mentallyalex When I see people talk a lot about things I don't care about at all, I just ... keep scrolling?

I never once felt people have to focus their attention only on things I approve of, but maybe if I did I could find the energy to yell at people to stop talking about things.

I really can't get into that headspace. Too alien.

@justafrog I think of things in terms of energy, calories, expenses of cost, etc.

To me, it makes sense to discard that which I can't care. Sure, a few global things exist that we should all focus on, but for the most part...I don't think it is smart to waste calories/energy/etc. on something that isn't really if interest to me.

For example, sports. I really enjoy watching a few games. They are fun, I grew up participating or watching and I enjoyed the experience of having an outing.

I don't like horseracing. I'm sure it's fine, I had family involved in the process, but I just don't care about the athleticism of horses. It's not my world and I really don't feel compelled to join it.

If you were a horse racing fan...I don't care. It just, doesn't concern me. I won't comment or care to engage with you on it. Other than this example, I also don't feel compelled to SHARE my negativity about the hobby. I'm not concerned that you will learn of my opinion, I just...don't really have one.

A great many people seem to feel as if they need an opinion on things that they really don't.

@mentallyalex Yeah, definitely a waste of energy.

You might end up typing out a huge diatribe about why Thing is stupid and you hate Thing and everybody goes :nkoShrug: and ignores it.

That wouldn't be a positive experience.

@justafrog :ablobcatcry: my pain, you have labelled it.
