I have until Monday to tell Climate Ride whether I want to bike 60 miles (my previous max in one day) or 100 miles on day 1. I have a month to get in shape. What say you fellow cyclists and people who consider taking on more than you probably should? https://support.climateride.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donordrive.participant&participantID=12036

@rebeccawatson Are you aware of Lorri Lee Lown and her Savvy Bike coaching business? She’s led group training for the AIDS Ride, among other accomplishments. She also does bike fits, though you can probably find a good bike fitter closer to home. LLL might be able to point you to someone in your neighborhood. https://savvybike.com/

@SVChucko thanks but I had a bike fit when I bought my most recent bike and definitely dont want to do a formal training!

@rebeccawatson Can you bail out early, easily? If so there's no harm in trying for 100 and discovering that you only rode 80. Or got on the bus after 30, if it comes to that.

I'd definitely try for the 100 because succeeding would be awesome.

@moz on the last ride they were very well staffed and forgiving so in an emergency I could bail

@rebeccawatson I did a totally flat 100 after training on 60 mile rides and it was tough but fun

@rebeccawatson

Things I might take into consideration:

  • how long ago was that 60?
  • do you have any joints/other parts of your body that did not like the 60 and might really not like 100?
  • what's the incline/decline ratio on that extra 40 miles?

And if you're stuck, you can always flip a coin.

@csweatpants november, I did 40-60 a day for 5 days with no pain, and I don’t have the exact route yet but they say it’s only 6,000 feet

@rebeccawatson You can do it. It’s not that much further. You probably aren’t even warmed up before mile 30. Chuck your hat over the fence.

@rebeccawatson I have lots and lots of tips for finishing long rides, if you’re interested.

@jlamoree sorry not interested in your only fans
