Bluesky: anti-Zionists who are (or say they are?) Jewish ask me what my grandparents did in WW2 when my username is my obviously Jewish real name and then don't engage when I bring up the Kaunas ghetto

@aquaticpotato Because they've convinced themselves that Real Jews hate Israel. These are not people who know many Jews; the few who are Jewish have a social circle that's about as Jewish as Clarence Thomas's is black, so they get warped ideas of which beliefs are normative. This is why they see a profile on social media, "Alon Levy, they/them, Berlin," and immediately think "aha, German who feels guilty about the Holocaust": they don't even recognize Jewish names. Happened 2.5 times on Bluesky.
@Alon so wwii is just a gotcha they bring up whenever they disagree with someone from germany??? (ok i guess there's also a shared "oppressor" thing too but that's an insane thing to say)
kinda unrelated but i keep seeing (queer) people say that bluesky is like queer heaven or "the queer twitter", which somehow just doesn't seem plausible to me. is bluesky just really good at echo chamber-ing or is it true?
@aquaticpotato They're American; the way they interact with people from any other country is this kind of mockery - either "we kicked your ass in WW2" or "we saved your ass in WW2." Here it's layered with the sincere alt-left American belief that Real Jews are anti-Zionist (the British alt-left knows better and is just more nakedly anti-Semitic).
Bluesky and Fedi are comparably queer spaces; I haven't had any "lol pronouns in bio" dunk on either, for example.
@Alon When I created a Bluesky account, one of the first things I saw on the (completely fresh and un-personalized, and following nobody) feed was a very thinly veiled antisemitic thread. This unfortunately tracks.
