We have rabbits that like to hang out in our back yard. They are a pair we see quite often and a few days ago I saw one of them gathering grass over on the side of our house.
Neat! They are building a nest!
Not so neat: they popped off the cover of our window well leading to our basement and dug a hole under there. I would have missed it had I not been looking for it. It looked like a small pile of grass until I pulled it back and saw the hole (cont'd)
Thankfully, other than the grass the hole was empty. No baby bunnies.
Unfortunately however, that left me with a difficult decision. I love the urban bunnies but that was one of the few places we couldn't let them nest. We have flooding issues as it is and are expecting more rain this weekend, so I made the difficult decision to get the bag of dirt and trowel to fill in the hole. I then replaced the window well cover.
This week I'll check back and make sure they don't dig it up again.
@oh_that_courtney We have no shortage of good spots in the back yard that's fenced in. In fact, they've dug nests back there before. We're hoping we caught it in time and the bunnies can find that new spot quickly.
