We're looking for some new maintainers to join the org 👀

Our GTK port is currently minimally maintained, due mostly to our reliance on the Colloid theme as our base.

We'd ideally use a more flexible base, or write the theme from scratch. This means we'd welcome maintainers who have pre-existing knowledge with GTK theming.

More details can be found @ https://github.com/catppuccin/gtk/issues/164, or you can join the Discord for real time communication (https://discord.gg/catppuccin)

Boosts appreciated for visibility!

Exciting updates for our GTK port!

We've completely overhauled the build system, which should make future maintenance much easier 👀

We're still looking for maintainers, and hopefully this rework will attract some folks into helping us squash bugs within the theme!

As always, we'd love to hear your feedback on the new tools.

All the details can be found on the release (https://github.com/catppuccin/gtk/releases/tag/v1.0.0-rc1).

Boosts okay and appreciated 👍

tyil,

@catppuccin If you're using your project is not worth supporting. Use a free software platform, and preferably drop while you're at it.

Ofcourse its a fosstodon user that goes hard on making sure as much proprietary garbage is used in their lives...

@tyil Thanks for the suggestions.

It would be a momentous task for us to switch forge, ignoring the fact that we heavily utilise CI tooling from GH, and use their discussion features too.

Similarly, we use lots of features on Discord that would be hard to replicate, e.g voice chat, our custom bot, and our use of forum channels for the community.

If you do know of solutions that would not cost us any more (so, free, including hosting), we’d be interested in hearing about it!

tyil,

@catppuccin is free software and has CI capabilities. Discussions in email have worked fine for decades, and still works for quite large projects.

As for real-time chat, still exists, and doesn't even need me to register an account to ask a question. There's plenty of good webclients to keep the barrier lower than Discord could ever do. Creating a bot for IRC is perhaps one of the easier tasks an aspiring programmer could work on. I have no clue what "forum channels" are supposed to be, but I'm quite certain it is not a required feature to develop software.

It seems incredibly bad faith to pretend these things don't exist or aren't known about.

@tyil Great recs! SourceHut may be an option, though not sure about its capability with respect to our workflow of port review etc, perhaps something to investigate.

Email/IRC lack voice chat, that whilst not integral to the project certainly are required for the community around it, which we think are equally important.

Our bot wouldn't work with its current feature set, unfortunately, so that would have to be something we trade off should we switch.

Seems like we'd lose more than we gain.

tyil,

@catppuccin

SourceHut may be an option

It is most definitely an option, pretending GitHub is the only one that can do automated CI tasks is just setting yourself up as their slave from the onset.> Email/IRC lack voice chat

And there's BBB, Jitsi, Mumble, probably other free software means of doing voice chat. Again, you've convinced yourself you need the tools of a proprietary solution, so you can excuse the use of the proprietary solution you chose upfront.> Our bot wouldn't work

Then write your bot so it doesn't depend on proprietary features. IRC bots have worked great and continue to work great for many projects.> Seems like we'd lose more than we gain.

If that's what you need to tell yourself to stay loyal to proprietary corporate platforms, sure. But let's be honest here then, you care not much for the freedom of your users or your software projects.

Genuinely wondering why this is so prevalent among fosstodon users...
