People get so cranky at Black folk for pointing out the irrefutable evidence that Biden's Covid policies got a lot of people long Covid, and caused a lot of other people to die of Covid unnecessarily.
You can get mad at me. You can yell "Trump is worse!" until your voice gets hoarse. I'm not talking about Trump. I'm talking about pandemic decisions made during this administration.
@mekkaokereke The curse of a first-past-the-post voting system. It creates two adversarial camps and you have to choose one side. And how dare you criticize the "right" side because then you clearly must be the enemy!
@mekkaokereke lol oh snap I already had that "Real Journalism" account blocked. There was another insufferable one like that, some bologna sandwich 🥪 or whatever. Good on you for calling them out.
@mekkaokereke there’s a lot of low self-esteem and worry carried behind the “Trump is worse!” rhetoric. Cause they know, deep down, that Biden’s disappointing “compromises” to appease conservative or moderate voters, just makes him more likely to lose to Trump.
The Dem party hasn’t learned its lesson from 2016: when you put forth a disappointing centrist candidate against a straight up fascist. The fear of what the fascist will do won’t be enough to sway voters. Disappointment doesn’t draw out votes, a candidate who inspires hope does.
If you being happy seeing my posts, depends on me never ever calling out Biden policy decisions that I disagree with? Then this account is not going to be pleasant for you. Go ahead and block.
@mekkaokereke I don’t understand how people still think logical arguments work. If you are curious, if you are open… maybe. Also, I wish people would stop wanting ditto copies of themselves around them. We cannot agree on every single thing. It would be nice to have some sanity like ranked voting, then maybe this situation wouldn’t feel so dangerously fraught. I have a really bad feeling about this one.
If US democracy only works if Black folk have no choice in who they vote for and no ability to criticize the 1 candidate that they must vote for, then Black folk do not have access to democracy🤷🏿♂️
And people think this election is "close." It's not really close at all! Biden would win by a landslide! But...
Biden's goal is not to win by a landslide. It's to maximize unpopular policies, while still winning.
So he'll do unpopular policies as much as he can, while still winning.
@mekkaokereke@justafrog I don't think it's quite that calculated. Policywise, Obama and Biden are awfully close aren't they? To the left of Clinton on a number of issues. The Overton window in the US has been shifting left on some issues (gay marriage, marijuana legalization) for quite a while (and generating a rightward backlash). What's interesting is that the Overton window on corporatism/capitalism was largely moving RIGHT under Clinton and margely continued to do so under Obama.
@mekkaokereke I mean, sure, Trump is worse but I don't presume I need to tell you this...
On the other hand there's a whole lot people that need to hear that Joe Biden could do even better and i have no idea why they're resistant to hearing it.
@michaelcoyote@mekkaokereke my guess is because it maybe sounds like your trying to argue against voting for him?
To be clear. Not disagreeing with the main premise. Joe could be better, absolutely. He could always be more progressive, but for an old white guy he's done all right.
@aintist@mekkaokereke that isn’t entirely fair — SCOTUS had already signalled their willingness to rule such public health measures unconstitutional, and multiple states had made it essentially impossible to enact or enforce at the state level. Should CDC have pulled back from mask guidance? No. Was that the thing that killed the possibility of a federal mask mandate? No.
The GOP set up all of this, and folks dropping the blame on Biden is precisely the strategy they wanted.
The POTUS is simultaneously the most powerful man in the world, or a powerless weak baby, helpless, naked, and pink, depending on whether or not he is being asked to do something that would save the lives of poor Black people.
"SCOTUS had indicated that..." So preemptively give up?
@mekkaokereke@aintist unenforceable isolation recommendations, without being paired with paid disability, simply lead to people chosing between following the guidance or keeping their job. When you tell someone they can’t work for 14 days, but nobody is paying them for that time off, and their boss fires them for their absence, you haven’t saved anyone.
Again, CDC under (and before) Biden has made some really stupid calls, but this is a much bigger policy issue.
Agreed, but none of that is the CDC's mandate or responsibility. You don't change CDC guidance based on the cruelty and brutality of the US economic system.
That's as silly as saying "I can't diagnose you with cancer, because you can't pay for it! So I'm going to write 'no cancer,' and just ignore the tumor!" The science is the science. The economics are the economics.
@mekkaokereke
Talk to the CDC...
President Biden expected people to use their heads about the vaccines and some common sense...
But nope , they couldn't figure out how to put a mask on and protect their neighbors.
Not Biden's fault!
And we all know who got the disinformation ball rolling on the danger of Covid.
Then let's talk personal responsibility...
@palin Are you serious with this reply, here? You're right, Biden has no control over the CDC under <checks notes> Biden presidency. "Use their heads about the vaccines" means what, exactly? 🤡 @mekkaokereke
