In the US, Ajit Pai really did a lot to make it worse. It was teetering due to social anxiety and young people having healthy respect for boundaries. But I think covid forcing people to learn alternatives for work pushed it over the edge that Pai set up making spam phone calls more common.
@avon_deer Personally I am more fascinated by the (by my own estimate) 50% of people in the same group always having their phone calls on Speaker and holding the phone at least 30 cm from their face out in public or on the bus.
It would be rude to assume they simply don't know how phones work, right?
