From a marketing POV, would you really want your brand appearing behind, say, the Finance Minister as she gives a speech? Tricky sponsoring events with politicians—plus you can't be guaranteed that if you are balanced (e.g. you also host an event with a shadow minister) that the other event will receive the same exposure.
