@anildash Prince q 4 u: Know any lore around P and Bernie Grundman? BG mastered all of P's albums, all of The Time’s, Morris Day solo, Sheila E, even Wendy and Lisa (and BG was hard to book in the 80s).
I fell down the BG rabbit hole because I got an original pressing of The Time debut for $7 and it sounded so good, I got weak kneed.I found a Prince podcast that interviews BG, and it's v v good, but ironically doesn't talk all that much about P and nothing about proteges. Whaddya know, oracle?
@selviano he was consistent about using Grundman but if I recall correctly, really didn’t interact with him or give him notes. I think he sort of liked having it be someone separate who had final say. (There’s a great BG reference in a Janelle Monae lyric that I think is also a nod to P.)
