In talking with my dad* about the Israel’s attacks on Gaza and the US government’s continued support for Netanyahu, he responded, “Israel is our only reliable ally in the Middle East. We will stay loyal to them to protect our oil interests [aka: oil companies] above all else.”
That’s not to say we don’t have other interests with Israel, we do - but oil is a big one.
*My dad is retired from a high security clearance career with the DOD and was in the military.

I would add that Israel has changed a lot. Netanyahu is a criminal and very anti-democracy and he wants #DonTheCon installed again. Bibi's good friend Kushner wants the Palestinians gone for his condos by the water. Then of course there are those priceless gas fields right off Gaza. Israel is no friend to the US now IMO.
@KatM My dad died Jan 1998. Age 86. He was alternately a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy, spy!!, DOD (FBI) and war hero (all the branches attended his funeral) Our dads=heroes of the absolute kind.
@Lizette603_23 My dad ran the crews that built and fixed nuclear subs during the Cold War. I grew up seeing posters on a family room wall identifying NATO military uniforms, tanks, planes, weaponry, and vehicles - and another poster for the same stuff for Russian and Chinese military.
Some things haven’t ever changed - except that now we have Republicans in Congress siding with Putin. That makes my dad’s blood boil. I can’t even discuss it with him, he gets so mad.
