@kwsapphire Ferrari at the time was the best race car manufacturer in the world at that time, but Ford was not a plucky contender. It was the richest car manufacturer in the world and if they wanted to win Le Mans, all they had to do was to throw money on it until it stuck. Which they did.
Huh. I wasn't thinking of pro-racing, I was thinking more status and image. Sure, "Shelby Mustang" is something of a status symbol, but aint nobody bragging about owning a "Ford."
@kwsapphire Funny thing is, European Ford is almost a separate company. And even that has a very split personality. The Performance version of the Focus is... fast. And nobody that knows what it is looks down upon it. At the same time the normal Focus is a hatchback for the small family or couple.
