Thursday: 142 seconds of plank, 20 minutes of HIIT, 11 minutes of runner’s yoga, followed by 10.4 km of (4°C, “light” rain, and a 22km/hr wind), picked up groceries, and walked home.

This is possibly my least preferred conditions to run in: cold, windy rain (although cloudless +30°C would be a close second).

Contemplating taking a week off running to give it a break and see if that helps. Cycling's easier on the knee. 🤔 Why can't this be easier?

1) Rideau Falls, seen from the west side, flowing heavily. 2) Gravel path on the east side of the Governor Generals, with a large decorative fence, with trees, and a wet road on the right. 4) Large tree on the shore of the Rideau River

@WTL taking a week off can definitely be good if you feel tired. Listen to your body!
It's impressive how you can work out for 2+ hour at this intensity 👏👏👏

@s1m0n4 Thanks.

@WTL

I do not know what the problem is with your knee, but I recently learned that planks are not the best idea if you have, for example, jumper's knee, since the tension irritates the patella. Maybe you don't have to take a week off from running, but from planks instead.

Take care!

@my_millennium 🤔 <looks that up> Not jumper's knee. I appreciate the tip though.

@WTL How are you finding the yoga? I keep thinking about trying that myself.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@mlysons 🤔 Well, the nice thing is that the runner's yoga I'm doing is 11 minutes, which I think, is just long enough to help warming things up. If you're specifically asking about 's yoga, I can't really speak as I don't have much other yoga experience. I'd say it's worth a try, especially if you have just bought an Apple device or have Apple One (or whatever the package is callled).

@WTL I was wondering about the runner’s yoga specifically, and whether it was helping in any way. As I get older, anything that might make the body feel more supple again is welcome 😀

@mlysons Then yes, I think so.

@WTL
I feel your pain.
Weeks without running for me and my uncooperative calf muscles.
Just about made it through an hour of Pilates this morning.
How do runners cope with enforced time off ?

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@sticklandtim Screaming into the void. 🤣

Or in my case, cycling, plus other workouts. I'll decide after tomorrow's run.

@WTL @sticklandtim It's so so aggravating and I'd be lying if I said I dealt with it well. I had a bicycle accident last spring that included a nasty cut to my knee. The few days I spent not running (or biking) to give it a fighting chance to heal were almost as painful as the bike accident itself...

Hope you are both back at it soon!

@SaschaFreud @WTL
Thanks.
Apparently I am genetically stubborn which doesn't help.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@sticklandtim @SaschaFreud No, it does not. (Same here 🤪)

    @ochaos @sticklandtim Not well at all. A while back, I was off running for four months… and I regularly dreamt about running then. …and I almost never remember any dreams beyond vague notions.

    @WTL darn bodies, undermining the things we want to do to take care of them.

    @bomkatt I’d RTFM if there actually was one. 🤣
