With the price increase in every single tech subscription service of today already happening or coming, I think it's high time to reconsider whether we really need all the streaming, video games, task management programs, etc.

Because I understand the rising costs of living, but some companies are being utterly rude toward their paying customers.

@sharan

You don't need most of it, either the quality has turned to crap and you just keep paying for it out of habit, or you could use cutting down on it anyway.

A lot of these subscription-based things have learned from the cable TV companies that there are a lot of people out there who will keep paying for something they don't like because the habit is ingrained and they're afraid to try anything different. So they keep raising the prices knowing a lot of people will keep paying anyway.

@sharan I agree. Every price raise is an opportunity to reconsider the subscriptions that we have. It is really necessary to pay 5€ per month for a document scanning app? Maybe there is an alternative that can be bought and paid for once.

@sharan I miss the times when we could buy an app and keep it for years. Nowadays you keep paying every month. If you stop, all is lost :(

I'd prefer to pay for a version that is supported for at least 5 years and that I can stick to. If new features are implemented on future versions, I could still think about paying for an upgrade...

@thomas I understand monthly subscription from the long-term support for devs point. Unfortunately, that is not what I can survive in the long term.

I am rethinking my to-do app - I've been using TickTick, and their price was 27 dollars per year. They made a raise to 35 bucks. I don't understand the reason why. No explanation was given. And their dev cycles are SLOW.

So that's one of the many frustrations I'm having right now, alongside PS Plus.

@thomas Sony is doing regional pricing, and here are a few thing that makes it really hard to enjoy their strategy in Bosnia. First of all, I need to buy top-up cards from dubious grey market websites even to have an account because they're not officially in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Second of all, they're expensive, no matter if I use an American or UK account.

    I understand entirely the continuous support model. And I'm up for that. But I don't find it nice when devs just boost the price and hope I won't find the alternative because I will if I need to.

    The thing is, 8 bucks per year more for TickTick isn't a lot of money, but I also have PSPlus, streaming services, and Google additional storage, from the top of my head...
