It's absolutely despicable. I used to be a lot further left than I am now (I've taken to saying I'm a liberal, not a progressive) and there was always this vomit-inducing undercurrent of antisemitism in it.

I began to wise up and close to door on that kind of politics last year and then October 7th happened and that welded the door shut.

I've also had to divorce myself from the LGBT community over it. So much antisemitism there too that was emboldened by Oct. 7th.

As a young fella just getting into in the late eighties my first impressions of David Sanborn were that he was corny and overly smooth, in an unhip bag I didn't dig with guys like Metheny and the Breckers. Then he blew my fucking mind with the Night Music show and I've respected him ever since. There was almost no really cool weird music on TV in 1988-90 except that show, and man, Night was legit!!! Nick Cave, Bongwater, Pere Ubu, Miles Davis...

Media’s breathless, hysterical, round-the-clock, clickbait coverage of the protests is yet another example of how the fourth estate has abandoned any and all responsibility to inform and educate in exchange for advertiser-luring clicks.

I am still waiting for the major part of the media to own up to their role in helping to elect Trump in 2016. Their coverage of everything else has been failing us all and this is no different. A large portion of people have also apparently learned nothing.

In my history classes, we were taught to spot yellow journalism and sensational journalism.

I pretty much only read wire services anymore because the rest falls under one or both of those two. Even sources I came to trust went into a death spiral in 2014-2015.

The presstitutes are looking for easy money nowadays and stoking the flames of chaos is the easiest money there is.

I gripe about New Mexico and trying to get anything done, but credit where credit is due. Maggie Toulouse-Oliver, our Secretary of State, has done an incredible job fortifying and modernizing our voter registration and voting systems. I was able to change my voter registration online in 5 minutes. Securely. Big fan.

kilroy_was_here,
@kilroy_was_here@dobbs.town avatar

@TheJen

Here in PA it's super easy too. Takes me a little longer than 5 mins but most of that time is going to my purse and digging out my driving license to double-check the ID number.

I registered to vote at the DMV when I got my license so I never registered with an actual form, but helping people with the online registration form, it's just as easy as changing an existing one.

I also had this guy blocked. When I blocked him, I can't remember, when you have over 1000 blocks like I do that's pretty much impossible to remember.

That is correct. Your righteous anger is misplaced and you are at fault, yes.

History will record you as complicit and cooperative to the groups you claim to demonstrate against and protest about. They will refer to you as a "useful idiot" and you will disagree and think it has value.

kilroy_was_here,
@kilroy_was_here@dobbs.town avatar

@TonyStark @mentallyalex @GreenFire

This is something I have been trying to say for a long time. When you kick off a revolution, you can no longer control that power vacuum. Whatever is the strongest force will fill it. That force will either be the US military or right wing militias that have been training and salivating for decades for this kind of thing.

Calling for revolution is like thinking that a redeal in a poker game will guarantee you a royal flush. That ain't how it works hoss.

kilroy_was_here,
@kilroy_was_here@dobbs.town avatar

@GreenFire @TonyStark @mentallyalex

It didn't go that easily though, it was relatively standard with regard to how difficult it was. They were literally fighting against the largest and most powerful military the world had ever known at that time.

However, education has been gutted so much and the textbooks have been tinkered with so much that the material around the Revolutionary War has been reduced to a series of footnotes. So people think it was as simple as buying a can of Coke.

kilroy_was_here,
@kilroy_was_here@dobbs.town avatar

@MJ @TonyStark @GreenFire @maddad @mentallyalex

It'd be just like most wars. The rich kids get off, the poor kids die. Now think of which group these kids calling for revolution tend to come from. It's not the group that would die.

It's damn easy to write checks with your mouth that other people gotta pay for.

If you’re sharing stuff such as “it’s the Jews” or “it’s all secretly AIPAC”, you’re not progressive, you’re not an “indie journalist”, and you’re not digging up some underground Jewish cabal activity.

You’re a conspiracy theorist no different from Alex Jones or Marjorie Taylor Greene spreading space lasers and people drinking blood and all the right wing stuff you’ve claimed to abhor. You’re no different.

The Jews Aren’t Taking Away TikTok - The Atlantic:
https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2024/04/antisemitism-conspiracy-theories-tiktok/678088/

“Characteristic of anti-Semitic online discourse, these videos and others like them interchangeably reference individual American Jews, American Jewish organizations like the Anti-Defamation League, American pro-Israel lobbying groups like AIPAC, and the state of Israel, as though they are all part of one single- minded international conspiracy to take down TikTok. When a commenter asked Carroll to "look into universal studios pulling their music from TikTok," a reference to the Universal Music conglomerate's dispute with TikTok over royalties, Carroll replied, "Universal CEO is a Jewish man."”
“Consider recent American history: In 2018, a far-right gunman who blamed Jews for mass immigration murdered 11 people in Pittsburgh's Tree of Life synagogue. In 2019, assailants tied to the Black Hebrew Israelite movement attacked a kosher supermarket in Jersey City, killing three; one of the shooters had written on social media about Jews controlling the government. In 2022, an Islamic extremist took an entire congregation hostage in Colleyville, Texas, and demanded that a rabbi get a convict released from a nearby prison. These perpetrators-white supremacist, Black extremist, radical Islamist-had essentially nothing in common other than their belief that a Jewish cabal governed world affairs and was the cause of their problems.”
“The reality is the reverse: Jews constitute just 2 percent of the American population, and although they exercise influence like any other minority, they frequently disagree among themselves and do not dictate the destiny of the majority. Politicians voting against TikTok are pursuing their conception of the national interest, not being suborned to serve some nebulous Jewish interest. Remove the Jews from the equation, and the situation will be the same. Conspiracy theorists typically claim to be combatting concealed power structures. But as in this case, their delusions make them unable to perceive the way power actually works. Thus, conspiratorial anti-Semitism hobbles its adherents, preventing them from rationally organizing to advance their own causes by distracting them with fantastical Jewish plots.”

@slcw @TonyStark

My observation of these types is that they aren't looking to make things better, they're just looking for somebody to blame for their problems, and if that makes things worse, then it doesn't matter, they got in their 2 minutes of hate. And they've been propagandized in such a way that they see people to blame everywhere.

Two arrogant, thoughtless men figured it would be hilarious if they went to the National Recreation Area, with breathtaking, natural rock formations that took billions of years to form, and destroyed it. I have to wonder, do the people idly wondering why the US can't shoot down Russian drones/missiles directly in Ukraine the way they are shooting down Iranian drones/missiles in Israel WANT a nuclear war, or are they just too ignorant of the one ironclad rule of modern warfare (and too lazy to research it in the least) to know any better?

There are two going on three generations that never experienced the Cold War and mostly aren't a student of that part of history.

Nuclear weaponry is a Hollywood and television thing to them, not a very real thing with soldiers ready to launch them at a moments' notice 24/7/365.

You want jobs? Elect a Democrat.

Bidenomics = record low unemployment, record high stock market, record number of Americans with health insurance, and real wages and national income are rising.

Are we better off now than we were four years ago? Yes.

US economy added a whopping 303,000 jobs last month, far outpacing expectations:

Thinking about buying one of these wee scopes in the future, my Hitachi scope from the 80s is starting to get a little on the weird side and it's definitely on the old and heavy side. I'll never need Tek or even Rigol for the playing around and experimenting I like to do and I like that it's battery-operated. I love the size and the touchscreen feature too.

Anybody have any experiences with these wee units?

Anybody know if BNC connectors are rain-resistant over a reasonable length of time? By reasonable length of time I don't mean years and years, maybe a few weeks or a few months max.

It seems to me that the silicone rubber gasket inside would provide at least some water resistance. Not N connector levels, but not a UHF connector that's got nothing whatsoever either.

Just trying to cover all the bases, home plate, AND the in and outfield here.
