Rentlar,

I learned a new word today: ossify (to turn into bone, to become hardened and opposed to changes).

Wow. This article really speaks to why I use Lemmy, I promote Fediverse for all its benefits and despite its faults, and am trying to separate myself to a degree from the big players on the internet.

Indeed. It nicely summarises a lot of the concerns I’ve had since… Web 2.0? and gives us a well-crafted and researched analogy that should inspire and focus new developments. The Fediverse has definitely hit a lot of the right notes for me and I feel enthusatic about the Web for the first time in a while. I’ve invested quite a bit of time and effort (and money) into the Fediverse and this justifies that and my future endeavours.

The networked software is free, but the hosting is paid seems to be a great model for promoting interop and avoiding single points of failure.
