Stop Killing Games Australian Petition - Open for Signature Until **20 May 2024** (www.aph.gov.au)

This petition is part of the Stopkillinggames.com campaign led by Scott Ross (Accursed Farms), to end in Australia the practice of software licensors to render purchased software completely unusable at arbitrary points in time....

Rentlar,

A petition for folks who live with me in the Great White North (Canada): www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/Petition/Details?P…

For my Commonwealth mates across the other pond (UK): petition.parliament.uk/petitions/659071/

Luckily these two petitions are a little more lenient on the deadlines than the Aussie one.

Rentlar,

Even if the legal conclusion ends up universally being, “own nothing and be happy”, it will be a step up if any country can get games-as-a-service type software to display upfront an expiry date or minimum guaranteed usability date. People will be more informed in what they’re actually getting, and companies can find ways to make their game usable for longer (like an offline mode or dedicated server self host file) so that they can avoid needing to put the date on.

Rentlar,

A couple more petitions for my Commonwealth Fedizens:

Aussie Petition (Closes 20 May 2024!) www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/petition/EN6080

UK Petition (closes 16 Oct 2024): petition.parliament.uk/petitions/659071/

Rentlar, (edited )

That would be nice for sure. Even just an offline single player mode with only some features for unsupported software would be a great start rather than being unplayable entirely.

Slightly separately but interestingly: Bill C-244 (44-1) and C-294 (44-1) are two bills in the Senate I’ve been following, that are related to the Copyright Act, for diagnostic/repair and interoperability respectively. Just today they have moved through a 2nd reading in the Senate so one step closer to a final vote and passage. If these bills pass, as far as I understand it, even if companies aren’t obliged to provide every feature, circumventing DRM for the purpose of troubleshooting, making operable (fixing), and making interoperable software people have a license to use, would no longer be against The Copyright Act here.

Rentlar,

It’s nice that he can run a one person show. It might be more variety of work but dealing with insurance paperwork sounds like a second job in itself.

I think if more primary care physicians can go back to a no insurance, flat-fee model and insurance is saved for urgent, emergency, specialized and long term care then Americans can live healthier and save money (neither of which is good in the eyes of for-profit healthcare and insurance), doctors and general practitioners will actually do what they enjoy and all around increase the efficiency of healthcare in the US.

Rentlar,

Demo’d this at PAX West Seattle and said hi to Billy there. It was quite a charming experience.

Rentlar,

Tim Hortons is Burger King now…

I can’t really hate their food offerings but they’ve been just meh since 15 years ago yet they still act like the hot shit they were before.

Roll up the rim is a digital scam now so that’s great.

Rentlar,

Professor Zuckerman vs. Zuckerbot. Who will win?

Rentlar,

The south side of Vancouver where a lot of UBC students live is on a bit of a slope. Regular biking would take a lot of energy out of people who just want to get around, not for the exercise.

An e-bike really takes the dread of the hills away which is really nice. Couple that with Vancouver’s bike infrastructure that’s not perfect but well above par, it’s no surprise that car usage goes down significantly with bicycle and ebike rebates.

Rentlar,

Good luck to OOP on their experiment 🫡

Rentlar,

Seems interesting, though this trailer was probably made in Powerpoint.

Sonic Forces™ fans to play another mobile game with plenty of microtransactions.

Rentlar,

You might be able to try a “demo” of v rising 1.0.0.79266-b23 before you buy…

Rentlar,

Terminal games are where it’s at, lol. In high school I’ve made connect4, battleship and a couple card games in C.

Once I took a Mexican Train domino game code I made in C, ported it to Java, then added graphics that showed everything nicely, but clicking on anything just had it pass a number you would have typed to do the action in the terminal UI version.

Rentlar,

The way it’s been used by the IDF, the where’s daddy system seems deliberately intended to target women and children since they would be sheltering in the domiciles that get bombed without warning.

Pierre Poilievre called lobbyists 'utterly useless,' but they're still attending his fundraisers (www.cbc.ca)

As Pierre Poilievre presents himself as both a prime minister in waiting and a champion of “the working-class people,” he’s headlined roughly 50 fundraisers at private venues since becoming Conservative leader in 2022 — some of them in Canada’s wealthiest neighbourhoods and most exclusive clubs....

Rentlar,

Lies lies, it’s all lies from Mr. Poilievre. They are useful at giving him monies.

Bankrupt Steward Health puts its hospitals up for sale, discloses $9 bln in debt (www.reuters.com)

Bankrupt Steward Health Care has put all of its 31 U.S. hospitals up for sale, hoping to finalize transactions by the end of the summer to address its $9 billion in total liabilities, its attorneys said at a Tuesday court hearing in Houston....

Rentlar,

Drug Fraud Doug Ford is hard at work into making it reality in Ontario.

Rentlar,

Yeah I don’t use prime video but as soon as I saw they were going to add ads, that opens the door for them to make their app shitty as hell.

Rentlar,

www.catsa-acsta.gc.ca/en/…/guidelines-batteries

I’ve never been asked to open my bag by an attendant in the plane. Generally the battery checks are done in the carryon bag scan by CATSA. So if you have a 160Wh (Watt hour) or smaller battery bank, and if a battery bank is considered a device rather than a spare battery, then you should be okay to have them with you.

Rentlar,

Just pure conjecture here, but I’d read that the decision to restrict countries of sale could have been Steam itself, so Steam would also undo that change when they confirm it can be sold in non-PSN countries.

Rentlar,

Thanks, I had Black Desert Online written off my list years ago.

It’s nice to have information available on the Fediverse for any Linux Gamer looking to find a solution to play this.
