Rocking an x1 nano 1st gen here and it’s the perfect ultra portable laptop. I slapped Linux on it immediately and I love the damn thing. Zero complaints from me! If I wanted a laptop that I could upgrade, etc like other fan favorite thinkpads, I wouldn’t have got a nano. The nano is perfect for web browsing, watching some videos and some text editing (of course I use vim. Im pretty much a walking stereotype).
Would highly recommend a used 1st gen if you don’t want to drop top dollar for the latest edition!
I have an x270, which isn't exactly what you're asking about, but IMO...
its super convinient and I love having it. it's nice not fiddling with cables, and the bonus ports are nice for when you need them. I think my only "complaint" is that lining it up for docking takes some practice, but you get the hang of it over time, it's not that bad. Also be careful if you want to get it for multi monitor stuff- there's a science behind which combinations will work at the same time, apparently.
No worries. I think it's a pretty solid docking station. It's supported by modern Linux too. I've never personally owned one, but everything I've read about them is positive. If you can get one for the right price, I don't see why not.
They also do a ton of corporate discounts. Check with your company's benefits provider to determine if they do a Lenovo discount. Mine does. Couple that with a good sale, and you'll get a ton of money off.
