R to @EU_Commission: From prevention to diagnosis and treatment, to post-cancer care.
Europe's Beating Cancer Plan is our plan to tackle the disease at every stage and is already making a difference to the lives of cancer patients across Europe.
🌿 Nature is beautiful but fragile – so we need to protect it.
The Environmental Crime Directive coming into force today is good news for nature, and for us!
This landmark law is the first of its kind, ensuring:
🟩 the most severe breaches of environmental rules are considered as crimes
🟩 law enforcement authorities and the judiciary have the tools to act effectively
🟩 support and assistance to environmental defenders in criminal proceedings
Equal work deserves equal pay.
And equal pay needs transparency.
One year ago, the EU Pay Transparency Directive was approved, bringing us a step closer to equality.
This is particularly important for women, who still earn less than men for the same work.
These rules will help end pay discrimination by ensuring:
🔸Pay transparency for jobseekers
🔸Right to information for employees
🔸Reporting on gender pay gap
🔸Joint pay assessment
🌍 This Earth Day and every day, we have taken ambitious steps and introduced concrete measures to reduce plastic pollution, including:
🔁 The EU’s Plastics strategy
🚯 The Single-Use Plastics Directive
♲ The Circular Economy Action Plan
🌊 Zero Pollution Action Plan
Last year, we adopted the chemical legislation REACH that restricts microplastics intentionally added to products. It prevents the release of about half a million tonnes of microplastics in the environment.

Five years ago, the EU-supported Event Horizon Telescope captured the first-ever image of a black hole.
Two years later, we got this clearer image.

🇬🇱 Nuuk
Amidst the breathtaking vistas of Nuuk's snowy terrain, our new Office marks the beginning of a new era of the EU-Greenland partnership, with Europe's presence in Greenland and in the wider Arctic region. There, we will invest in clean energy, critical raw materials and skills, creating jobs and helping young Greenlanders in their education.
In the heart of sunny California, we've also launched a new office in San Francisco, a global centre of digital technology and innovation. It represents a significant step forward in our efforts to address pressing issues such as cyber threats, hybrid warfare, and foreign information manipulation.
All opened during the #vdLCommission, these offices bring the EU closer to you, working on tackling present and future challenges.
Yesterday, we marked the entry into force of new EU rules to empower consumers in the green transition.
Under those rules, companies will be forbidden to make vague environmental claims, such as stating that they are ‘green’ or ‘environmentally friendly’ if
they cannot demonstrate that they truly are.
Consumers will be getting better and more harmonised information on their legally guaranteed rights and on products’ durability and reparability.
