R to @EU_Commission: Violence against women and girls is a scar on all societies.
This year, we acceded to the #IstanbulConvention, marking a major step forward in making Europe a safer place for women and girls.
Now EU countries will have to implement measures such as:
🔸 training professionals in close contact with victims of violence.
🔸 running awareness-raising campaigns.
🔸 ensuring dissuasive sanctions for perpetrators.
The European Union is acceding to the Istanbul Convention, a legal framework aiming at addressing violence against women through measures that prevent violence, protect, and support its victims, and prosecute the perpetrators.
With every step we take in the fight against gender-based violence, we validate the work of many feminists who came before us and made our successes possible.
RT @TerryReintke: The suffragettes gave us the right to vote. Let us be the generation of feminists fighting for an end to gender-based violence. #timesup#istanbulconventionhttps://t.co/FcDwuTlCtN
