The epic linguistic map came up in conversation at work today, so today is one of those days to regularly to pause and spend some time admiring this map of North American English dialects by Rick Aschmann:
Someone on birdsite asked about the data for this map I posted five years ago (and someone recently tweeted). The data is derived from Bert Vaux's dialect survey, made famous by Joshua Katz's red-green-blue original version of the map. I never found a clean data source; I basically extracted the dot locations from http://survey.johndal.com/results/240/.
