🤩 Aren't you just delighted by all those proprietary software apps for the ?

😮 Don't be. Each time you choose proprietary you help turn the fedi slowly in the direction of the usual corporate hellscape that the rest of the Web already is.

😨 And then we end up in an online space where for years we can complain to each other how we squandered an opportunity and how won once more.

🎯 Use apps instead, created by the public for the public.

@smallcircles a mess indeed, and mess making all round.

As you just said, we can't keep doing this crap.

Composting is the path for #fahernistas #NGO parasites and the #geekproblem #blocking the core of this mess.

Think positive #OGB #OMN #indymediaback #makeinghistory projects outside this mess making, need crew, focus and dev :)

And #dontbeaprat is a good hashtag for this http://hamishcampbell.com/2023/10/09/dontbeaprat-whats-next/

Remember that all of our projects, agenders, passions, people are pointless for big picture change and challenge, they are the pushing shit for composting. We need real shovels to do the work, now how do you tell the difference, you tell me please.

Fucking Christ the @protocol is the most obtuse crock of shit I've ever looked at. It is complex solely for the sake of being complex and still suffers from all of the same problems as Mastodon.

Your server goes down? Sorry, all of your followers are lost. Account portability is no better than Mastodon. 'DIDs' serve literally no purpose. And none of the API code that Bluesky uses in their own app validates ANY of the crypto they're doing on the server. NONE OF IT.

Yep, people are lifting the lid and finding smoke and mirrors - I hope we are not wasting our focus and time on Fear, uncertainty, and doubt with this.

On a positive note, the “protocol wars” - has pushed creativity in the world and siphoned off some of the worst to the other networks. Let’s keep planting spaces to become more of what we need, in the era of

Evan Prodromou (@evan), the co-author of #ActivityPub, does not like Bluesky.

He believes it's a setback to the Fediverse and slowing its growth.

For people who do not see the activism in this. Chicken and egg - we already have the egg - it's the now can we nurture this to hatch a chicken. Or will our egg be stolen by magpies - see our making a mess of the "protocol wars" on this subject.

So here’s my thought on the Mastodon/Bluesky divide.

Try every network so you know it’s out there. Know that there are some people who want certain things out of their social media. Know that those may not be the things you want.

I don’t particularly love image-driven social media, so I mostly stay off Instagram. I value openness, so I found a home here.

There are some nice features on Mastodon. There are some nice features on Bluesky. They may not be the things you, personally, want.

🚨 Want to help build a robust bridge and relays between & networks? (:fediverse:

Live only for a few hours - we launched this group late last night - it already has over 40 developers/followers starting to do exactly that.

If you are working on this, or want to, go follow that mastodon-compatible Frendica group & introduce yourself!

That's fine, nobody has to federate, the advantage of a bridge is you do not have to get the codebase to change their project - it's just a relay that connects one protocol to another, "permissionless" they can unfederate from this if they like.

It's a BAD, good tech solution, and likely the best we can do to mediate the current squealing mess out make.

The Decade of Dishonest Technology’ I call this the as in the con after the dot-com bust. The time when our sold out the to capitalism... was a wasted ten years

sindarina, to random

Towards the end of December 2019 I did a whole thread on Twitter, essentially reviewing the decade as ‘The Decade of Dishonest Technology’. It didn't start with that decade, and it hasn't stopped since, but it was the decade that got bought, and then sold everything about us under false pretenses, whether for state or corporate purposes.

It was the decade of technology that wasn't only biased, but straight up lied to us. Lies that most of us didn't really care about, as long as they didn't hit our own wallet.

Strap in, I am reviewing and updating the whole thread for the Mastodon Age.
