#Celtic #LegendaryWednesday: It was believed that at #Samhain, the beginning of the #Celtic #NewYear, the veil between the mortal world and the Otherworld was very thin, and that the spirits of the ancestors could cross over and walk amongst the living again. There seemed to have been no fear in this; the ancestors were welcomed by laying a place for them at the dinner table, or leaving out food for them.

About 2,000 years ago, when #Celtics in Europe celebrated the end of the harvest and the start of a new year in a festival called #Samhain, people believed they could facilitate communication with the dead during that time by lighting bonfires to ward off spirits.

#Celtic #LegendaryWednesday: In #IronAge #Gaul New Year's Eve was called Uegilia Samoni. It was an evening celebration commemorating the ancestral spirits and souls of the deceased. It survived in Christian lore as Halloween or All-Saints-Day.

Really concerned about the 41% of the country who think the Supreme Court is doing a good job. Maybe they’re giving them credit for being good at taking bribes.
