Back to the Aviva Studios street piano! This time I’ve taken an excerpt from the end of How I Got Over, a wonderful gospel number by Clara Ward (check out amazing versions by Mahalia Jackson and Aretha Franklin), although I’ve altered the lyrics slightly to appreciate all my fantastic friends and how they help me through.

I had fun writing these lyrics specially for . By far the two best pianos on the @manchesterjazzfestival @manjazzfest piano trail, grand pianos no less, and indoors so no worries about the elements… are this one at Harvey Nich’s and the one at the Corn Exchange. They both have piped music in the background you have to compete with when you play… but there you go. Every cloud, as they say.

You can always count on Nina for some good kick-ass don’t-mess-with-me vibes. I’m not planning on leaving anyone, just in case anyone decides I’m planning some kind of messy public break-up! I love my husband very much, but I also love this song.

Such a lovely laid back jazzy vibe, and the chords crunch along nicely. I wrote the instrumental bit myself. I love singing this song, always have.

This is the longer version - I posted a shorter one for yesterday.

I’ve been singing this song on and off since I was 14 years old and Alison Moyet had a hit with her cover of the Billie Holiday original. The piano accompaniment is super simple, but apparently the chords are a bit of a nightmare for guitarists.
Again it’s not very fancy, but I really like the instrumental break I wrote for the middle. This is another one for , performed on the @manchesterjazzfestiva @manjazzfest piano outside Aviva Studios.

Yay, it’s that time of year again when the pianos come out! I wrote these lyrics especially for @manchesterjazzfestival’s piano trail (https://manchesterjazz.com/mjf2024-piano-trail/).
The piano arrangement was a collab between my son Oscar, my husband @AllyFogg and me.
