Nowy wpis na blogu: POW! #3 – kasa i muza

W dzisiejszym odcinku Programów Obadania Wartych chciałem polecić wam program, którego używam do ogarniania swoich finansów, a w bonusie dorzucam trzy inne apki tego samego autora.

According to echofm.online #Russia has 'included the former mayor of #Kherson Igor #Kolykhaev to the list of prisoners of war #POW , the Red Cross told his son. After the #Ukrainian city was captured by the Russian military last spring, the mayor refused to cooperate with the occupying forces and was detained. There was no news about him for more than a year. Kolykhaev's whereabouts are still unknown.'

gpollara,

@fulelo eventually, we're going to discover a lot more horrors from this war. There must be so many people that have disappeared during occupation that we barely even know of.

🛡️ Tor Implements Proof-of-Work Defense for Onion Services 🧅🔒

Tor, known as The Onion Router, has taken a significant stride in enhancing its defense against Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. The introduction of a new Proof-of-Work (PoW) mechanism adds an extra layer of security to Onion services, which are essential havens for global users seeking to conceal their IP addresses and uphold their privacy.

Onion services have consistently been targeted by malicious actors due to their focus on obfuscating IP addresses. While traditional IP-based rate limiting has been breached on numerous occasions, Tor's implementation of the PoW system ushers in an innovative approach.

The PoW system introduces a meticulous screening process for incoming connections to Onion services, depending on the stress level of the network. Operating as a dynamic ticketing system, the PoW mechanism remains inactive until the Onion service network experiences substantial traffic.

Operational Mechanics:
When users attempt to access an Onion service, they are presented with a cryptographic puzzle to solve, thereby validating their legitimacy. For attackers orchestrating flooding attacks, the system escalates the computational requirements needed for complex operations.

Genuine users encounter connection establishment times ranging from 5 ms to 30 ms. In contrast, malicious actors attempting to overwhelm the service face connection delays of over 1 minute.

This mechanism effectively distinguishes between benign users and malicious intruders, thereby safeguarding both legitimate and harmful traffic. Importantly, users are spared from encountering any CAPTCHA interactions during the process of connection establishment.

According to Cyber Security News, the intricacies of the computational workload are kept hidden from users and are seamlessly executed in the background. The Tor project's announcement underscores that this advancement not only equips Onion services with inherent DoS protections but also promises reduced network speed degradation during targeted attacks.

Current users of Onion services are strongly advised to upgrade to version 0.4.8 to take advantage of the protective capabilities of the PoW defense mechanism.

H3liumb0y,

@yeti Dunno, good question tho... Perhaps kindly ask if bad actors want to update so they can be blocked? ;-)

@fulelo Terrible. I hope that those monsters who torture human beings end up in the Hague.

There was a video that stirred outrage last year when one of these horrible incidents made it to the web.

What appeared to be the work of a small group of sick sadistic fucks was actually part of a pattern of institutionalized torture. We've all seen UA #POW's come back emaciated, with injuries from physical abuse, now this literal #Nazi shit.

Yet another for the list of #WarCrimes committed by #Russia during its brutal invasion of #Ukraine.

@KevinLikesMaps
The link is just a news article from The Times describing the experience of who were castrated while in 'n captivity. The video I was referring to was floating around social media last year & I refused to watch it.
If I recall correctly @Bellingcat or some other sleuths managed to ID the perpetrator of that particular incident.
Sadly it appears it wasn't a one-off, but something that has been happening on a wide scale.
