It was immortalized in the HIGHLY fictionalized 1963 film ‘The Great Escape’ (including among other inaccuracies, the role of Americans in the actual escape.) In the movie, Steve McQueen's character was based on Jerry Sage of the Office of Strategic Services.

Israeli newspaper Haaretz reports that several Palestinian prisoners (including children and elderly) taken from Gaza have died in Israeli custody.
Those detained there are kept in fenced compounds with their eyes covered and hands cuffed for most of the day, and in their prison compounds the light is on all night long.
