There have been a lot of threads these last few days discussing the current feature-set of /kbin. While it's good to go out there and get a sense of what's the prevailing opinions are, it's probably actually better for the project as a whole that actual feature requests be lodged at the issue tracker....
Super agree with @Kichae here. This is why issue trackers exist. There's no way developers could take anything meaningful from hundreds of threads suggesting slight tweaks to existing functionality, completely overhauling certain features, language improvements, etc, sometimes in conflicting ways. Kbin doesn't have or need the tools to triage software issues.
That seems like a bug, but may be intended behavior. Things have to settle down around here and stabilize before any real fixes can be made. In the meantime, your comment will be lost to time so you could file an issue on the issue tracker to make sure it's triaged by the dev team (just /u/ernest right now)
The fediverse is always ahead on things like moderation, so I don't forsee downvote harassers becoming a thing here. Eventually, you'll be able to easily block/report/ban them.
I'm not even sure allowing an opt out would be technically feasible without some big work. Your votes have to be sent to other servers to keep counts consistent and you can't control whether that server shows or hides votes. So any option you set on your own instance won't have an effect outside your instance.
Apart from the issue of harassers, I don't see a good reason for hiding votes. Showing votes might help prevent brigades or similar vote harassment (e.g. user always downvotes another user they don't like).
I'm new to the Fediverse. So far I've been very impressed by the interoperability between the different instance types. Here in Kbin, I can subscribe to communities on Lemmy servers and have them seamlessly appear as magazines in the Kbin UI. I can also follow users on Mastadon servers and see all their posts as Microblogs....
@KapmK The ActivityPub spec was written with that goal in mind. There's two parts to it: the S2S which all fediverse services use to federate and the C2S which is an API for allowing a client to access an AP server. Unfortunately, mastodon was the first project to convert to AP and they decided to create their own API instead of using the standard so other services had to use the mastoapi to get app support. And now we're stuck with an API that is controlled by one party that probably won't work for much outside their intended usecase (microblogging).
I have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to post a reply... is their an option to move the comment box to the top? Or is that something that will be changed at some point?
So, if I want to post something on, say, the Technology community o. Midwest.Social, is it good/bad etiquette to also post it on the Technology community on another instance like Lemmy.ml or beehaw.org?
Lemmy has native cross posting; there's a button under posts that looks like a copy button (A square layered over another square but slightly offset). The original and crossposted post will display a message that the post has been crossposted.
I am playing Pokemon Violet at the moment and it is a total bore. I have played the game so many times and I just want to run around catch Pokemon and battle....
@worfamerryman This is how all modern Nintendo games seem to me. Playing Tears of the Kingdom and every character has to explain some game concept to me in the middle of their dialog. It's super clunky and repetitive.
Im joining in on the reddit ditching thing, and was kinda worried at first that i wouldnt be able to like use it the way i did reddit as it feels like a whole new place, but after engaging with posts and people and actually being a part of lemmy rather than being lurk mode all the time i was pleasantly surprised with how easy it...
I would think that since they’re all federated together one single account could comment on all the different platforms
You should be able to; #ActivityPub was designed for that. But the mastodon team decided early on that that kind of interoperability wasn't important to them so they built their own API and the rest of the fediverse has followed to remain compatible
This also means that Kbin users have to be much more careful with what they "upvote" as that causes the post/comment to be shown to everyone that follows them in the wider fediverse.
I think kbin is changing its voting system to match lemmy's so this isn't relevant anymore, but kbin users don'thave to be much more careful. Kbin users should use kbin the way that makes sense and fediverse developers should handle how protocol things are interpreted.
For years, there have been mandates for users to change their behavior to deal with weird interoperability issues between software (mostly in how mastodon handles things from other software). The way to solve these issues is for the various fediverse vendors to work on proper interoperability not force users through weird hoops.
Discourse ActivityPub currently allows you to establish a Discourse category as an ActivityPub “Actor”. This means that any other “Person” in the ActivityPub network (such as a Mastodon user) can “Follow” the category on their ActivityPub service....
@Ada Neat. I wonder how they're gonna handle attribution though. If their users aren't ActivityPub Actors, they'll probably use the category/community/magazine as the author (or whatever the field for author of a Note/Object is called). Users on other platforms won't see the original author, they'll see the category name.
It'll look like the category is a user (maybe they mark it as a Service or Application so other platforms can mark it as a bot) that made the post. It won't be obvious that it was a separate user who made the post within a Group
Trying out #kbin (https://kbin.social). It's a link aggregator like #lemmy/reddit/lobsters but also has microblogging support. Lets see if federation works
Kbin feature requests may be better housed in the project's issue tracker

As for now, upvotes, downvotes and boosts are public on kbin
On every thread or post, if you click on more and activity, you'll get the info....
How much potential is there for Fediverse frontends decoupled from a specific type of server?

Reddit refugee, here....

Two missing features in kbin: Collapse comments and quick preview of images/videos
While using kbin, I realized that I keep going back to a Lemmy instance because it lacks two important features Lemmy (and Reddit) have:...
Crossposting etiquette?
