Abgesehen davon, dass das in DE eh ein riesen Schwarzbau wäre. Bei Gasleitung auch nur nach Anmeldung und Lageplaneinholung und mit Handschachtung.

Ein sehr interessanter Film über analoge Vermittlungstechnik in den USA.
Der erste Teil beschäftigt sich mit der „Step-by-step-Technik“, wie wir sie auch in Deutschland hatten.
Im 2. Teil ab 33:30 wird die „Panel-Switch-Technik“ gezeigt, die es m.W. nicht in Europa gab.
Im 3. Teil ab 53:02 geht es um die „Crossbar-Technik“, die es auch in Europa, z.B. in GB gab, aber nicht hier in D.

Very exciting news for collectors of old cellphones:
There's ways again to get data connectivity on devices which don't support GPRS/packet data.

This Nokia Communicator 9110 is running DOS on a AMD x86 CPU and is connected to the internet via a 9600bps CSD call through a private GSM network!

The Osmocom free/open GSM stack gained CSD support over the last months and it now actually works :)

when you're installing a mouse driver into your DOS installation, do you do the lazy thing and stick MOUSE.EXE/CTMOUSE.EXE into C:\DOS? or do you keep things "clean" by putting it in C:\MOUSE and adjusting the PATH?

@foone Fun fact. Our first PC, 286, had a mouse with such an extra card. But it didn't connect to the bus, it basically just used power from the bus. It then externally connected to a serial port. (Using an audio RCA connector on the card.)

@foone Well the card has eletronics, it's not only for power supply of the mouse. But the electronics talks to the PC only via external bridge to RS232 (25pin of course).
PC has been bought I believe 1987.
I even have a second of those mouse+card, got that years later, don't remember from where.

But a mouse with external power supply, that sounds strange ad well...
