Marveling at the world

Lots of Martian rocks and landscapes, some looking all too familiar, but don't be fooled by that: Mars is an inhospitable toxic planet. Let's not mistake fiction for reality.

I like dirt and rocks, but I Am Not A Geologist (IANAG).

Rambling around YT for late-breaking news, YT's algorithm knows I like , so it shows me a guy named Don McMillan (new to me), a very funny who uses (I know right?) to get laughs.
He gets laughs!
Probably most appreciated by "Nerds, Geeks, or Dorks" or some combination thereof, like 'engineers', or something (he explains the differences with excellent charts & graphs). https://youtu.be/kwz-Md6OoyA

That's … too close for comfort 😬 !

Yeah, I noticed you didn't hint at the location but I'm currently neck deep into some work I'm doing so I may let it pass (the previous one over Valles Marineris desperately called for some Mars Trilogy toponyms, but I passed that too).

I expect to spend some time in plotting Perseverance's next drive, if LA announces a new one, but apparently the rover is having a Memorial Day BBQ right now, on the MMRTG grill 🙃

One thing I noticed is that Phobos moves right to left in the animation, which would make it east to west, assuming north is up. In reality Phobos rises in the west and sets in the east, which could suggest that this animation is upside down? 🤔 However one should also consider the spacecraft's motion relative to Phobos in those ~34 seconds, so it's not certain it's upside down.

North up helps with the maps 🤓

Then maybe Stellarium or Celestia together with the timestamp could be of help in finding the whereabouts of the spacecraft & Phobos, but I can't get into that rn. Maybe later.

@andrealuck
It could be somewhere close to Spirit. Here is the view with NASA Eyes of Phobos at that time (notice the light; it comes from the right, so maybe, yes, it's upside down):
