I sill really like the 6600 as it runs quiet and doesn’t draw much power for most of the games I own but it’s just the few I play regularly now where it struggles.

I regret not getting a 6750 XT last November when the price was good.

£296.

Yeah not so great now.

6700 XT is probably the minimum upgrade that is worthwhile for me.

It will be because of the “First Run” deal that Epic offers, so you’ll get to play in 6 months. I don’t blame the studio for doing it though but it’s not ideal for some.

I tend to agree.

Every storefront is DRM, some better than others, and people shouldn’t get so tied to a specific one. PC gaming is so open and getting angry at this is pointless.

I’m happy for you and a little bit jealous!

Our daughter (10) has really improved her art skills these past few months and is doing some amazing drawings (pictures here) and my youngest has learnt to swim without any floats.

The game has changed a lot but also you might have too.

Football Manager 2024

I wouldn’t even call myself a football fan but the management part if very fun. Currently in the 6th tier and working on promotion.

Circuit Superstars

I bought the Switch Version so I can just pick up and play whenever and so far it is very good. It’s a nice mix of arcade racing with some realistic parts like pit stops and tyre wear. Hopefully online racing is still populated so I can give that a go.

I can’t think of any memorable “hacking” type ones as they all just become a chore by the end. Fable II has some wood chopping, pie making and lute playing that wasn’t so bad if you can get a high multiplier going.

As for actual “games within a game” then Shenmue series has many gambling and arcade machines. Roll it On Top, Lucky Hit, Darts and then Arterburner, Space Barrier, Outrun and Hang On.

I think if console is your way of gaming then upgrading to a PS4 or XBSX is alright.

Personally I only bought an XSS because it was relatively cheap last year (plus Gamepass with the £1 upgrade offer) but I’m done with future consoles now. PC gaming doesn’t have to expensive so that’s the way forward for myself.

TWOM is so good. What you say about things going bad fast is very true and the repercussions of something minor are real.

Game genres where "It's just more X content" is more than enough

We get a lot of sequels in the gaming world, and a common criticism is when a series isn’t really innovating enough. We’re given an open world game that takes 40 hours, with DLC stretching it out 20 more, and see a sequel releasing that cut out it’s late 30 hours because players were already getting bored....

Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator seem to be making their way across the world with new map DLC and I like it. I think it’s a great example of maintaining a game with new updates to older maps and the game engine, new DLC and also having an online portal with seasonal events.

Its a predatory mobile game in disguise.

What's your favorite game that you will NEVER finish?

This question popped into my head when I was playing Void Stranger. I just got done with the game and will probably never play it again despite not finishing it. The game is genuinely amazing but it just gets so demanding as you progress through it. I ended up watching the second half of the game on YouTube....

Half-life 2 has probably been installed on every PC I’ve owed over the past 20 years but I’ve never finished it. On the positive side I’ve managed to avoid spoilers for this long so what’s another 20…

That’s the goal. Better get a move on…

Squad

I play for a few hours most nights but I will say that the devs come across as so inept it is equally fun & frustrating. When the teamwork just naturally works there is nothing that can beat it but the amount of bugs and performance issues majorly let it done.

I got to play Terra Nil, and here is my two cents on it (lemmy.world)

This year I was recommended Terra Nil, a “reverse city builder” as the developer Free Lives call it in the store page. From screenshots and what gameplay I did see of it, my mind raced to games like SimCity 3000 and the potential of destroying a run down, or decaying city and returning it to nature....

I remember playing the demo and being disappointed it was just a puzzle game, albeit a good looking one.
