BCsven,

Same. I have used SolidWorks, SolidEdge, CATIA and Unigraphics/NX…freecad just frustrated me

BCsven,

I stuggled with GIMP at first, it was super frustrating because it does UI things differently than other image tools. i.e. in other tools your active layer masks your drag selection, and in GIMP I would constantly be grabbing lmages from another layer, till I realized the pixel under pointer determines what image is moved. That function can make you highly productive since you don’t need to preset layer, but god was it enraging at first

BCsven,

Zorin if you want a simple to use system, or with a different learning curve OpenSUSE if you want GUI configuration for everything that would be CLI based in another distro. YAST2-GUI GTK has everything covered from setting up services, tweaking kernel, to adding users, altering hardware setup, GUI package selections and snapshots for rollback if you accidentally wreck your system.

BCsven,

I find it has been good, reliable and consistent. Apps are slow to release, but that is ok if that is whar they need to ensure it isn’t a buggy mess. Just hoping they will implement online account integration for GNOME desktop at some point, then it would be full google replacement for me

BCsven,

Free market might work if politicians couldnoy accept any “donations” to adjust laws in favour of giant corps.

BCsven,

I am so glad I switched to Linux 7 years ago. What an absolute shitshow Windows OS has become

BCsven,

Ask India, they hit 15% Linux desktop use

BCsven,

Quite possibly. North America still has too much disposable income to start making OS decisions based on pricing

BCsven,

Bazzite, it is already tweaked to contain what is meeded for gaming, and has isos ready built based on your hardware type. bazzite.gg

BCsven,

Not OP, but as a Canadian I have all Proton services, so that is a non-issue

My Linux Command Line Tools (thingsiplay.game.blog)

A short list with categories of my smol terminal focused tools, scripts and functions I have created over the years. There are some general purpose and very specific ones. This list was needed, because in Github it was a bit cluttered. Maybe, just maybe, you find something useful or inspiring in there.

BCsven,

Simce you have Biggest, also try PDU github.com/KSXGitHub/parallel-disk-usage

Gives you a cli graph of what folders files are taking up largest percent of space. It runs parallel processes to get the info, so it reports it super fast.

BCsven,

What is also insulting is death tax

BCsven,

I hear what you are saying, my thought would be murders taking advantage of a DYI burial site.

BCsven,

I agreed a death coverage should be standard for everyone…basic minimum anyway

BCsven,

Not to be adversarial, but Yes, I know how everything works in my house and how to fix it, or maintain it. Same as my car, or PC. i just see it as understanding the fundamentals of the world we access.

BCsven,

YaST is great.

BCsven,

Self balancing with an Outrigger wheel

BCsven,

That was my thought. and those pedal bikes with outrigger to run abandoned rail lines is already a thing

BCsven,

Good. Glad he got that for that attack; now if only cops could serve even a single day for severly injuring or later killing an arrested indigenous person

BCsven,

Our governments barely understand tech and the average user would not know what arbitrary code execution is. If I said to my wife you should remove tiktok because of ACE she would stare blankly and say but I like the funny people. if I said you should remove tiktok because of spying, then she would think about what they might spy on and have some concern

BCsven,

Not to be callous, but newsflash: businesses don’t care about the person, and your service does not matter to them. The old days of a owner valuing employees is gone as soon as you introduce MBA types just looking a budgets

BCsven,

Not really possible when share holders want profit every quarter and company is run by MBA types and not an owner with integrity.

Does a VPN used on a smartphone with Wi-Fi disabled (mobile data only enabled) provide any sort of protection?

I’ve never completely understood this, but I think the answer would probably be “no,” although I’m not sure. Usually when I leave the house I turn off wifi and just use mobile data (this is a habit from my pre-VPN days), although I guess I should probably just keep it on since using strange Wi-Fi with a VPN is ok (unless...

BCsven, (edited )

Well facebook VPN waa sniffing data to see what other Social media the person was using. But something like Proton that prides itself on privacy and encryption should be fine

16 year olds should legally be allowed to vote in my opinion

Seriously it really grinds my gears that the Canadian government thinks that 16 years olds are mature and intelligent enough to drive a car, work a full-time job, pay taxes, apply for a passport, and are able to live independently on their own without a parent or guardian if they want to and get married with parent consent....

BCsven,

Not every retired pwrson is an old school “boomer”, some are very educated and have seen trends come and go to be wise about voting. i trust them more than a 16 year old who lives with parents aying their way …who’s biggest voting point might be irrelevant compared to larger picture of knowing how cost of living, bills and inter country politics work

BCsven, (edited )

Sounds like you are stuck in your ways , incapable or unwilling to change. LOL. If you actually talked to old people, not just what you see about boomers amd corporate distopia you will find many are very open minded.

As an anecdote, my mum is old and grew up in an era of racism and gay being illegal. she is now in public or on facebook having daily fights calling people out on the racism, and spreading acceptance for the lgbtq2s+ community. Intelligent people do chane their views, ageism has no bearing on that
