Okay, I have a really fun question today with lots of possibilities. Very excited to see all your answers.

What are your favorite Anime and Manga where the protagonist isn't a human?

At first, I thought to ask just for animals, but I wasn't very excited to read mostly about Beastars or BNA. :HoloLaughCry: For this reason, every non-human answer is possible. From Hamtaro to Frieren and if you really want to... you can even pick Dragon Ball. :celloutsmart: Have fun!?!

My answers:

@CavoriteLizard@sakurajima.moe avatar

@To A theme in several of Osamu Tezuka's works is the question of what makes someone human (most obvious example being Astro Boy). This gives a few interesting answers, which by the nature of theme are on the borderline here:

Phoenix: I think multiple stories from this are relevant, though one of my favorites is "Resurrection." A man is rebuilt after dying, with only one problem: After being brought back, he sees organic things as inorganic and ugly, and inorganic things as beautiful, warm, and living. Relevant partial spoiler for the end: He ends up becoming an outright robot. (There's a lot more to it than that, but that's the relevant part for this post!) There's a lot of stuff about the differences and similarities between humans and machines which blurs the line here, as he ends up retaining his humanity in some ways post-robothood.

Ode to Kirihito (minor spoilers for first part): A doctor has to figure out the cause and a cure for a disease which makes its victims look like dogs, and ends up afflicted with it himself. Part of the point is that the victims are still human, but the doctor often isn't treated like one because of his dog-like appearance. Meanwhile, the manga highlights some of the rather inhuman things that humans have done, in particular discrimination in various forms. Dark but thoughtful, and with a very compelling story.

@ttanguy Off the top of my head, Vinland Saga S2 was 24. (As was S1.) But yeah, lots of things are one cour long. I don't have exact numbers though (and am too lazy to look stuff up lol); I kinda wonder how the percentage of shows that are one cour now differs from past years, and what the general trends have been. :akko_think2:

ttanguy, to Anime

Do they just not make 24-26 episode seasons anymore? There have been so many that could have that number of episodes easily, but they always seem to cut off at 12-13 these days.

@yon @ttanguy Definitely seems to be a trend. I was trying to think of shows that did split cours, besides the infamous Attack on Titan splits, and I realized that I literally forgot about 86 because of that.

Just watched the first episode of Genjitsu no Yohane! Very cute so far, I adore this artstyle. The moments with Hanamaru were really sweet, I'm hoping for a lot more with everyone else :zerotwoheart: Insert song itself didn't particularly stand out to me, but the MV was very pretty. And the opening MV that played at the end :akko_excited: So excited for this series :mexcitedmiku:

It'll be interesting watching as someone who's never seen but I thought this first episode was solid. Not the most interesting but good enough, particularly with how much going back to your hometown is a plot point that resonates with me. Opening goes harder than it needs to, sounds like shit. Looking forward to what the rest brings me.

CavoriteLizard,
@CavoriteLizard@sakurajima.moe avatar

@AWanderingSorcerer I'll be interested to hear what you end up thinking about the show as a whole. I feel like seeing Aqours characters again is definitely contributing to my excitement for the show, but it seems like it should be able to stand on its own.

Today's Anime/Manga question will be a lot simpler and more straightforward than the last ones, which is very fitting because the genre itself could be described in the same way.

What are your favorite Action Anime and Manga?

I'm expecting to see a lot of Shounen titles today. Especially titles released in Jump magazine. They're the most well-known titles and adored for a reason. Still, I'd be glad to also see some variety and also more serious action titles. It doesn't even have to be an action title, as long as you remember it because of the action. Well, it's up to you. Enjoy answering!

#Anime #Manga

My answers:

CavoriteLizard,
@CavoriteLizard@sakurajima.moe avatar

@To Another fun question. :AquaYeah:

For an action #anime , I'm gonna go first with Girls Und Panzer, because that tank action is too good. (Also I see that you asked the other day about anime that promote something; somehow I ended up playing War Thunder instead of World of Tanks, but still pretty effective).

I also have to say Attack on Titan. Both the titan fights and the ODM gear fights are incredible to see animated, season 4 especially.

For a #manga (though not really the anime) I'll throw out Kingdom. (While I've heard the animation improved in later seasons, the season 1 animation was really wonky, so I quickly stopped watching.) I like the historical setting, in warring states era China, and especially in the earlier arcs I think there's a great balance between seeing combat in the small scale and seeing the flow of battle overall.

Hard to choose just one, but I'll pick "The Other Side of the Wall" by Void_Chords featuring MARU, the opening to Princess Principal (the anime that actually inspired my username!). The brass is really epic, and that piano part :akko_yay:

Seeing some in my timeline. The theme is this week?

For background, I listen to OP/EDs for my daily run, so there’s a lot of value on rhythm for me. MYTH & ROID「shadowgraph」from a few years back has a really nice pace to it, and both their video and the Boogiepop and Others OP are a bit wild.

@To Another great question, and great answers from others! :akko_fistup:

A couple very short that are fun:

Makoto Shinkai's "A Gathering of Cats", a hilarious 1 minute short about the cats' plan for vengeance. :meowbaka:

The original "Swimming Anime" commercial that eventually would become "Free!". Looks great, and of course the actual anime did not disappoint.

For today's question, I have something that I'm very excited about. I want you to share your favorite Manga One-Shots (Dōjinshi are also fine) and Anime that aren't longer than around 30 minutes (for example, short OVAs, specials or commercials).

After this post, I'll do another one for my Manga and Anime picks separately. There are so many good answers that I couldn't decide what to cut.

Let's continue with the genre thing I started yesterday.

The genre question for today is: What is your favorite Romance Anime or Manga? :gawrgurashybackgroundless:

I tried to include some lesser and better-known titles 😁😁

The first Anime is the currently airing Skip & Loafer. I'm also a Manga reader, and Anime is doing a great job adapting the source material. It catches the sweet and adorable tone perfectly.
You could argue that the romance has a tendency to take the backseat in the show, but the small, little gestures and emotions, the main characters share, are just adorable and turn it into a quite romantic show.

1/3

Cover artwork from chapter 4 of the Manga Yesterday wo Utatte. It shows the male lead and a girl that is in love with him. Her height only reaches his shoulders, and she seems a bit like a troublemake. She has chaotic, short hair, is holding a beer and a crow sits on her shoulder. He looks very grumpy, but his style is rather generic. They're standing next to each other and are making soap bubbles.
A man and a woman holding hands while floating in the air next to the Tokyo Tower. A small, silly looking donkey, who is wearing diapers, is biting the girls' dress in an attempt not to fall. It's the cover of Tokyo Marble Chocolate.
Title card from a chapter of Delinquent Housewife. It shows the female lead when she was younger in her Sukeban / girl gang outfit. She's wearing sandals and wide pants. Her torso is just covered with bandages. She's squatting down and holding a bamboo sword. A jacket is put around her shoulders and a big flower in her long, blond hair.

CavoriteLizard,
@CavoriteLizard@sakurajima.moe avatar

@To :zerotwoheart:

My favorite romance is "How Do We Relationship?". It's the story of a couple of college girls who start dating because they figure it's not that easy to find other openly gay women. They have to work through a lot of ensuing complications, personality conflicts, and baggage. The conflicts feel very real and hit hard. Honestly the most stressed out I've ever been about fictional characters' relationships lol, but that's really because the manga does a fantastic job of making you invested in them.

Let's get to know each other a bit better with some genre questions :spyfam_anya_sparkle:

First question: What are your favorite Comedy or Gag Manga/Anime?

My answers are a classic, the SoL comedy Yotsuba&! and the supernatural Yakuza comedy Hinamatsuri.

Yotsuba&! is the story of a five-year-old girl with the same name. She recently moved into a new town with her adoptive father and has a lot of mundane adventures that get fascinating because of Yotsubas' excitement for everything.

Hinamatsuri is about mid-level Yakuza Nitta, who becomes the guardian of the psychic girl Hina, who turns his life upside down.

Cw: Eye Contact

A panel from Hinamatsuri. It shows a young girl with long, black hair. She's wearing a bartender uniform and a big bow in her hair. A group of older men is positioned behind her. They look like angel wings for the girl. The men are labeled as police, lawyers, politicians, businessmen, and yakuza. The text describes her as: No way I can ever keep up with her. She is not... an angel.
