It’s still a good resource for stuff like that but I’m not contributing to it.

I want to get into Doctor Who, but it seems daunting and massive, any suggestions where to start?

Should I watch all 20 years of the original run or just begin with the new one which I think is been around for 15 years? What are the best episodes? I’ve seen only a handful of the old and New ones but I liked what Ive seen, just hoping for a guide to really get into it

Since nobody has mentioned it yet, the newest season is yet another “reboot” of sorts, and they re-explain all of the previous canon (as though the viewer isn’t expected to know it). So if you want to just watch the current season it’s probably as good a place as any and you can always go back to the older stuff whenever you want.

What if the ModLog was a community?

Every mod action would automatically create a new post. Anyone could see what is going on and express their approval / disapproval with votes. Maybe even comment on the post.

It should probably be a local-only community (no federation) to avoid clogging up other instance's "All" feed with mod actions?

What do you think of this idea?

It was a rhetorical question and yet you somehow managed to give the correct response!

Do I Need to Watch Discovery To Enjoy SNW?

Hi all! Long time Star Trek fan here with my first post. I’m gonna start out by saying that I promise I’m not a hater of Discovery at all. It just has done nothing for me and from what I read, has not made any changes that would have solved my personal issues with it. I’m fine with others liking it and honestly wish that I...

I really like Discovery seasons 4&5 but totally with you on Beyond. The fact that I enjoyed it more than '09 and Into Darkness isn’t the same thing as being actually enjoyable…

Got a “All Good Things…” tattoo for my birthday. (startrek.website)

My birthday was last week (May 17). Decided to get my first tattoo, which I wanted to be Trek related. As a kid my family had a VHS tape with a recording of “All Good Things…” (and for unknown reasons, “Caretaker”). So I have seen the episode a dozen times. It is my favorite episode of the franchise. The image I’m...

I’ve come to realize the Linux basics are actually a lot easier to learn compared to Windows and MacOS, the hard part is un-learning the old ways and habits of doing things. Like if one day everyone on earth forgot how to use operating systems, I’d bet Linux would probably be the one that catches on. It’s only because we’re so used to the idiosyncrasies of stuff like Windows that it feels more natural.

I’m tempted to do that too but mostly because I could not tell you what happened during seasons 1&2.

This is a classic but I watch it every time

It’s not hopeless! The Fediverse is AFAIK entirely nonprofit, and smaller instances means more moderator eyes on everything, too.

If I had to predict the future, I think apps like Reddit, Twitter, Tioktok, etc will be the places for entertainment and the Fediverse will become the place for conversation.

Got a link? I’d be curious to read that.

Reddit has been trying hard for years to move beyond being a discussion forum to another mindless scroling app.

The reason is because in the time people read one discussion thread they only see one ad, but scrolling memes, etc they will see many more. It makes the ads much more valuable.

Newish user migrating to Linux

I have been using Arch Linux with i3wm for around 5 years for work, on my ThinkPad. I am fairly comfortable with pacman and setting up a distro. I have previously tried Mint, Manjaro, KDE Neon, Elementary, and MX Linux, all for the same use case (Work: where I need a browser, Slack, and a MongoDB GUI)....

If it’s not the OS drive it’s prooobably fine.

HouseFresh disappeared from Google Search results. Now what? - An elaborate historical analysis and overview of Google search results and media landscape (housefresh.com)

From Forbes and Money content farms, to Google search algorithm changes promoting generic and generated content and big media platforms over specific results, to Google prioritizing ads, overpriced, and other worse results.

The reason is because they use that stuff to help determine if you’re a bot.
