I jokingly said before my new year's resolution was to ban #dnd but our entire club is on board with it. So it's time to get serious. D&D is back off the menu boys. Maybe it's time to have that kind of talk with your own gaming group?

My New Year's Resolution is not to play D&D anymore until Hasbro can show they can be trusted... so never. Playing anything else this year.
Any other
Any suggestions of must play games for me in 2024? @ttrpg

I got these dice for Christmas. Wanted to show them off. Now I need a good dice tray to roll them in. Any suggestions? #TTRPGs @ttrpg

Had to make a little funny about the shake up at Hasbro. I hope everyone that left Hasbro gets back on their feet and becomes way more successful without Habro. Happy New Year.

@Techaltar I don't think the Fediverse is going to pick up like you think. Mastodon users are going to be a badge of extreme nerddom, like linux, MUDs and other bastions of brilliant/obsessed people. Most will be just fine with their corporate controlled social media.

Do you like to make your own #TTRPGs worlds or run around in someone else's? What are the pitfalls of doing that? Why is it awesome? Some of my best games I've played or run have been in other people's worlds, from Star Wars to Legend of the Five Rings. It time to talk about all of it! @ttrpg

Let's Plays and Actual Plays fall into a hazy legal area. Sometimes you'll be fine, sometimes you'll get shut down. are games where it explicitly states for you to create your own stories, but as soon as you share those you could face legal action. We discuss this today on the Dead Unicorn:

I get confused with the differences between elves, fairies & pixies.

I just don't understand the gnomenclature

@wihtlore I see you have a sylvan tongue.

Much worse than celcius vs. fahrenheit and metric vs. imperial is the fact that we still couldn't agree on a standard date format across the world and I have absolutely no way of knowing whether 04.07 means the 4th of July or the 7th of April.

DeadUnicorn,
@DeadUnicorn@mstdn.party avatar

@Techaltar ‘merica uses slashes. Europe uses dots. Therefore 7/4 is 4th of July. 7.4 is April 7th. If you see something to the contrary they are wrong not me. Stamp it as official today 2023!4!7.

Many traps in #ttrpg are boring, mainly a tax for passing a certain place. There is little interaction beside rolling a dice, basically a gamble where the players can only lose (HP), but not win (except for not losing). How to make them more interesting? Well, there are two ways: Traps might be enticing or interesting. 1/3

DeadUnicorn,
@DeadUnicorn@mstdn.party avatar

@belchion @ttrpg Very true in many respects. Have a high passive perception or make a dex save and take damage. Your pit traps, spring traps, etc, work this way. It’s a way to draw out resources from your characters making other encounters along the way harder. Nothing wrong with this in theory, and good GMs can spice it up to make it matter more, and is what people expect from movies like Indiana Jones.

DeadUnicorn,

@Homebrewandhacking @belchion @ttrpg traps as puzzles, traps as encounters, traps as obstacles. These are ways PCs can interact with a trap other than with the rules. Turning a trap into a role-play encounter or a mind teaser can be fun or frustrating, depending on presentation and the type of players in the group (GM included). Most people consider them far more rewarding, especially if they have many solutions, not just one.
