I got my medikinet prescription today.

When I tried to recap and asked again, if I understood the medication plan correctly, I got "Just take it, like we discussed!" as an answer...

If I would be sure about what we discussed, I think I wouldn't have asked. Not to mention that plain yes or no, would have been shorter.

My proposal to try out dosis with more fine granular steps because many autists report that the right dosage is a small window was neglected. 😒

I am also a bit anxious and undecisive whether I should start with it tomorrow or on the weekend.

I am a bit afraid that if I should react bad to it, I might leave some bad impression at work, or loosing control etc.

The comment from the doc was only, he can't tell me how I will react on it. And that if I am looking for effects at work, it makes sense to take it at a work day. I think he completely didn't unterstand.

Med. professionals are the worsed!

A situation I run into frequently when trying to make small talk is this:

Me: So what are your interests?
Them: Gaming
Me: Cool, me too. What games?
Them: Call of Duty, what about you?
Me: Dwarf Fortress
Them: Never heard of it. What's type of game is it?

At this point I'm basically deadlocked because explaining the game would take longer than their attention span. I feel I probably made a mistake earlier which led to this situation. How to do better?

It sounds like a normal dialogue so far as I can judge it. I don't know the game, but I guess you can assign it to some genre or mixture of genres. So just drop that and if they have further interest you could expand on it ig.

I just saw a video on YouTube in which Louis Rossmann takes the Aspiequiz.

It's a bit like uno reverse card. So me having fun watching a guy on the internet soldering stuff and ranting about Apple is speaking for itself. Funny to see that the guy making those videos is driven by the same os.

My recent diagnosis is explaining a lot for me.

For instance, I've always been super confused why a waiter appears to crack a tiny amount of black pepper from an enormous pepper mill.

It's hardly a precious spice and why can't I just do it myself?? :blobawkward:

Would any of you be interested in doing a weekly audio conference? I have organizer stTus on meetup could do audio and discuss how everyone is doing checkins, talking science, or what it’s like for you personally in the world coping ?
Perhaps zoom audio, no judgements safe spaces etc over the internet ? Discords etc

Professionals get highly irritated if one knows too much stuff on their field.

Was today at the pediatrician with the kid. When I said that I think the wound between his toes might be athletes food, because there was some fluorescence under UV light, he was kinda confused and asked me about my profession.

Just by getting informed I create often remarkably irritating unusual encounters. I take that as occasional confirmation that I am a bit different.

I had last year a discussion with an allergy doctor about antihistamine withdrawal. He didn't believe it was real while I had called the pharma company and got confirmed that what I experienced indicated that side effect 🙄.

But it's not doctors all sorts of professions. But they are not necessarily offended, just simply surprised, because usually people just don't care.

You know that metaphor that neurotypical people are running windows and autists linux. I want to expand on that.

If you are a person that is "not looking autistic" people say often something like okay, but you have like the mild version.

I think it's because they only look at how big the differences are they are noting. They don't see where you are coming from.

Especially the last part is really a good metaphor.

I had my appointment for ADHD treatment today. With regards to ADHD that went quite fine. Some check ups need to be done, but there is no questioning on that.

Sadly he thought it would be calming information for me that I don't appear autistic to him...

I told him that I really don't appreciate that comment and that there are aspects about my personality and history that can best be explained by autism and that he can't see anything from that in our half hour talk.

At least he apologized and acknowledged that he can't know it. If I would look autistic I would most likely have a diagnosis I guess.

Yeah I have a plan and am currently waiting for a waiting list to be opened.

That comment of him was stupid. He told me he had recently a training at the local clinic for ADHD and autism that is known to have a quite strict and outdated view. And I don't fall into that category.

Classical self confirmational bias on the psychatry side.

There is a phrase in German language if you are confused. "Ich weiß nicht, wo oben und unten ist" literally "I don't know where up and down are."

My wife made this statement this morning in presence of my 4yo. He looked at her with a blank face and said: Here is up and here is down, while pointing with his finger.

I will have a first appointment at a psychatrist this week to talk about possible ADHD medication.

I am usually not anxious about doctors appointments at all. But now I am starting to get rumouring thoughts what I can expect. If they take the diagnosis serious, want to do their own etc.

When it comes to awareness and false stereotypes an important topic is autistic woman that were ignored to exist for a long time.

When people talk about that they often refer to "female autism" or "female representation". That often focusses on higher level of masking and deep compensation in social skills.

I find that sometimes irritating because I kind of see myself in that description. On the other hand there are woman that show rather stereotypical traits.

I have no troubles with recognizing a "female autistic profile" in myself. But I wonder whether this different types of autism are really correlated with sex or gender or whether it is rather a selffulfilling psychiatric scheme.

This gender bias from observers is a common thing in general I think.
Maybe that is an explanation. People note different things in their observation because of their bias and therefor create two gender seperated profiles.

I think that is somewhat strange as many autistic people oppose typical gender cliches.

I heard a story from a woman that got a negative diagnosis. In the evaluation it was stated that although she lines up items it's not considdered autistic, because the ordering was based on social relations...

Showing same behavior a boy might be pedantic, a girl tidy etc.
