So, what's the thing, what's the big thing no one can help you with? How do you cope with it?

EVDHmn,
@EVDHmn@ecoevo.social avatar

@RickiTarr
My hardest thing is trying to learn who I am through the experience of life.

While trying to balance energy, while being a decent person, not perfect.

To me that takes work. 😅

I cope actually believing that with every day the possibilities are endless 😃, but also being grounded☺️. At the end of the day.
From my pov
We are the ones we have to live with, yes maybe our partner or family but with our own mind it’s us.

A work in progress. Evolving in mind- body , fluid in nature.🫣

How are you with animals?

I tend to throw off the wrong vibe for people, but get along with even the iffy animals. Dogs that don't like most people warm to me.

Just wondering how much of that is autism and how much me. My dad hates animals.

EVDHmn,
@EVDHmn@ecoevo.social avatar

@Uair @actuallyautistic
Love love love most animals…
I once had a barking growling guard dog break its tether and tackle me, it was about 125 lb Rottweiler, my only causality was whatever gooping amount of slobber my face ingested while sugar proceeded to try lick my face off seemingly.

My friend said sugar has never done that with anyone. I think they felt a little betrayed or something.
humans are ok animals, …I prefer some to others.

Where do you live and how do you feel about it?

Obviously, don't tell me exactly where you live, no actual addresses please! You can be as vague as you like.

I live in Central Missouri in the U.S.

Pros:

This is an absolutely beautiful place, green rolling hills, lots of rivers, lakes, ponds, and natural springs, cool caves to explore.

Lots of farming here, so great access to quality fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, and dairy.

It's relatively inexpensive to live here compared with other states, because it's a "flyover".

I'm close enough to three major cities, that it's an easy day trip, and I'm about halfway to anywhere in the U.S.

We have one of the best Conservation departments in the U.S. and this is one of the few things that is a bipartisan issue. Lots of awesome nature programs that are free or cheap, state parks, conservation areas, bird watching, hunting, boating, foraging available to everyone.

Cons:

Yeah, it's a big one, it is a RED STATE, while a lot of the cities are blue, there is a large rural population, that votes red. Abortion is not legal here. People often vote against their own self interest.

While I'm not against responsible gun ownership, lots of people aren't responsible, and people have access to guns that definitely should not.

We have very few employee protections here, while the cost of living is relatively low compared with other places, it's taken years to get to a $12 minimum wage, and it's still not enough.

Im from southwest pa. What kind of ponies do you have? I do love the lush nature coming out of spring, it smells amazing!
🥰
If you can manage to zen out to it you’re lucky. My neighbor says I see the world differently than most. I appreciate for what it is.

On a side note I’ve noticed less signs than January, or perhaps I’m just biased 😅.
I prefer the simplicity of nature.

So cool! Give all your creatures a friendly hug from us!

They are such empathetic creatures. So much personality!

I do miss them so. I used to manage a saddlebred farm with 54 when I was 16-26 or so. That’s when I was younger and had tons more energy!

I’m in Fayette County.

About 35m slightly southeast of Pitt.

Rural Area. My town has 400 families or so. Rural all surrounding and then another town of maybe 14k 5 miles away.

Southwestern Pennsylvania, US.

We are about 15 miles from the appalachians.35 from Pittsburgh,or an hour, where we mostly grocery shop @ https://www.lotusfoodonline.com/#/home.

West Virginia20m , or WVU is about 30 minutes away, Morgantown.

Pros: The Librairy system is pretty fantastic in general at least in the southwest. Cost of living is fairly low. The NDiverg community is huge!

(I suspect they they don’t know it, or what that is)

EVDHmn,
@EVDHmn@ecoevo.social avatar

@RickiTarr
Cons: it’s the third poorest county in the state.
everything is expensive when you’re poor, although it gives you an appreciation of what you have despite how hard it is to live.

Mental health to most of the general population is a game of telephone gone horribly wrong.
(It is getting better)
Along with most other things, Communication is difficult.

Especially when people don’t realize why communication is difficult when it comes to perspective or frame.

Got the electronet out and set up, and now all the 4 legged animals are out on grass for the first time this year! They are sooooo happy. (And the llama doesn't seem to have any thoughts of escape, so that's great).

A herd of over a dozen white goats with a couple of brown and black goats sprinkled in. They are 100% concentrating on eating. They are in a bright green grassy area, with a tall wooden fence, tall spruce trees, and a large old yellow barn in the background. There are lovely poofy clouds in a bright blue sky above.

What cracks me up is when you go to a restaurant, and they ask if you've been there before, and then they say, "Well, we do things a little different here", and then it's exactly like every other restaurant, but more expensive.

… I’ve seen some of those places…I litterally saw people paying 10 dollars for 1/2 homemade banana pudding. It’s just made old fashioned with high quality ingredients and marked up well.
That was 18 yrs ago it’s probably 20 now…

I have just watched the 1st episode of A Kind of Spark thanks to @PetitPas

It’s a Irish British American Canadian series. In Canada I’m watching it on CBC Gem, in the UK it seems to be on the CBBC channel, for the others countries I don’t know.

I like it because the 3 autistic sisters are played by autistic actors, use of the words autistic, masking, meltdown. etc. Shows sensory overload, etc., ignorance and bias.

To watch it in Canada https://gem.cbc.ca/a-kind-of-spark

@adelinej @actuallyautistic oh US, I used to be a kind of a bad consumer of less then licensed goods mostly movies and music books on demand until I had a run in w some malware, particularly nasty, I blame that so I swore off content pretty much unless I really want to watch it. I just was thinking of trying an episode just to try it out .

I’ll look around thanks though

Does anyone else start the day by seemingly hours to find a groove to roll on?

It’s like my mind is trying to tune in my body and brain, and brain and body is like, “no no, not yet be patient”, some days at best it’s like trying to watch life with noise. I know some have it worse. 🤷‍♀️

Its not like I feel horrible, I’m more then a bit 🥱. I slept plenty. Lots of socializations yesterday I forget sometimes, even if I’m enjoying myself I pay for it.

No matter how well I learnt to mask, no matter how well I learnt to get on with people, if not in any deep and meaningful way, at least superficially. There has always been one skill that I have never mastered and that is simply the ability to not upset people and especially without having the slightest idea how.

Or that I didn't for a long time, anyway. It was only when I realised that I was autistic and that the way I looked at the world was in some ways substantively different from the way many allistics looked at the world, that I began to understand something. Allistics tend to find validation externally, through feedback from the group or the part of society that they identify with, whereas autistics tend to find it within themselves, in their own reason and sense of worth and value.

Now I must stress that in many respects this is a generalisation and obviously there will be a lot of variation and degree in how true this is. But in its more extreme forms, it could very well explain many of the experiences and difficulties that I've had.

Because if someone's self-worth, the value they see in their life and actions, is almost entirely based on their interactions with the dynamics of the group they identify with, or the society they live within and not from their own judgement, then this could lead to certain choices and reactions that are quite frankly alien to someone like me and that I could easily end up in conflict with and all without really trying to.

For example, if the value of a child reflects back on its parents. Then in the extreme case the values and behaviour expected from that child, are not those of the child, but of the parents in terms of the group the child is meant to be representing them in and how well it is doing that. So any sense of divergence from that or criticism of that child, no matter how slight that might be, could easily be seen as an attack on the parents and reacted to accordingly, irrespective of how reasonable or just it was.

Equally, of course, worth, praise, or rewards, can also become divorced from any sense of reality. All that matters is that you, whether that's through your children or not, are being valued, not whether there is any justice to it. Because the truth or validity of it, is not based on how you see yourself, but only on how others see you. And in the extreme case, it doesn't even matter how they came to this view, as long as they have it. So worth can become something to be manipulated and played for and how you really are and how you actually feel about yourself becomes almost irrelevant to this process.

That people could even be this way, that everything could become how you're being perceived and anything that effects that negatively can be something to be attacked, is still something that I struggle to understand. It is so foreign to my nature. But, it certainly explains so many of the times that I've upset people, because I wasn't playing this game, or seeing the world the way I should and didn't even realise it.

I’m sorry if I was too blunt. Or inaccurate I know some suffering is natural and it’s sometimes best if we discover this truth ourselves. I’m sorry if I misspoke
