Uninteresting. Genderfluid. No interest in performing for you. Was KirinDave on 🐦. Still KirinDave on YouTube.

@Bro666 @werefreeatlast Has it? I was using it not even 1 year ago and I concluded I'd rather use Blender.

The face naming problem aside, I left feeling very frustrated about a lot of things. Like how hard it was to reuse sketches on parts that would mesh because you'd end up with the dependency loop checker refusing to solve for constraints across parts that shared a sketch.

Elucidating,
@Elucidating@mastodon.social avatar

@werefreeatlast @kde @kde Worth noting Blender has improved dramatically for precision work, including a full blown CAD skarcher plugin that uses SolveSpace under the hood.

@Bro666 I don't mean to dunk on any CAD software. I just felt like it's a bit early to start sending folks over there

I do think it's very healthy that ondsel exists now and is helping to inflate the project.

The only thing I miss about X is getting to talk to people younger than 35.

hell yeah i’ve been waiting all weekend and it’s now time for GODZILLA

Elucidating,

@lzg that's because Godzilla is in league with sactown and he won't rest until Sacramento is the coolest city in earth, by removing the competition.

It's genuinely wild to me that folks sincerely believe that they should get YouTube for free. It does not cost $0 to run a video hosting website, as anyone with a peertube instances will tell you.

It's kinda heartening to see that a lot of the major tech news outlets are not giving AI stuff special treatment. In fact, they're being so honest that VCs and C*O's of very grifty AI companies are complaining and swearing off the press because they're being so utterly crucified in the review scene.

The big difference in experiences between Twitter and the Fediverse that sticks out most prominently to me right now is the lack of people discussing severe weather. Like, for the past few evenings, people's lives have been upended by powerful tornadoes and other types of severe weather, and it's happening right now. This sort of communication NEEDS to be in the commons.

Elucidating,
@Elucidating@mastodon.social avatar

@xan Do you think they're maybe happening on local servers that don't interact with .social?

AI didn’t ruin Google. Cynical content farmers ruined Google. SEO ruined Google. GOOGLE ruined Google.

Elucidating,
@Elucidating@mastodon.social avatar

@maxleibman This is a great take. The gradual decay of the Internet and the advent of creeping AI sludge have common causes

@maxleibman Google literally pays people to abuse their pagerank. The better you are at abusing it, the more they pay you.

I was talking to @ireneista and I realized I don't talk about games enough.

By far the most unique rogue like I enjoy is Chronicles of Stampadia. It's an amazing project, a pen and paper daily rogue like. You can print it and play it on a plane or at an off the grid camp, as you would a crossword. Incredibly rewarding and the source is open.

thermostat controlling the boiler for heating here over RF: broke a week or two ago

flipper zero that i've been using to manually enable the boiler instead: also broke somehow

me: freezing to hell and beyond due to it being 5°C outside and not having anything warm

my headmate: spends four hours putting together this incredibly normal setup using her beaglebone and a radio carrier module she designed a year ago. she even got the RF modulation parameters right on the first try, wtf

boy I /wish/ they would “Recall" Windows 11!!!

...

for serious tho it's enough to make a body start reconsidering the PC Gamer life.

OTOH, I'm not sure I’d expect any better privacy-respectin' from uhhh…the same fucking company…or Sony.

(I already have a Switch, obv, so I guess that would be indie games sorted, albeit leaving a AAA-sized hole in my life.)

(Oh right, or: Steam Deck, or its handrolled analogue, “Linux on the Desktop: no we SWEAR this time”)

@bitprophet I play lots of AAA games on Linux.

One thing that really bothers me about the "AI is an environmental nightmare" line is that any indictment of scaled AI is an indictment of cloud computing and irresponsibly located/powered data centers as a whole. The problems we see with water consumption, power use, and urban noise/air/light pollution existed and grew rapidly before LLMs and even before crypto.

But it's only for AI that we now see this widely deployed. Weird how many folks in software only want to talk about it in one frame

While I'm being grouchy I wish I could demand my money back from Remarkable for their scam of a product.

Elucidating,
@Elucidating@mastodon.social avatar

@chris__martin It is not very good. I could go on for hours about it. @danilo wrote a thing too.

But, let me give you an example of how awful its ecosystem is. Check the docs for how you get readable content onto the e reader.

Now look at the docs for how you do it with USB. Note that this can actually break depending on your existing network setup.

It's slow, it's janky, even its core UI is poorly designed.

I am extremely skeptical of these "no inner voice" and "no internal reflection" studies, iih. They really reek of survey hacking.

Elucidating,
@Elucidating@mastodon.social avatar

@fdlk Because the entire field of psychology is basically a shambles of p-hacking surveys?

Elucidating,
@Elucidating@mastodon.social avatar

@fdlk That depends which explanations you're referring to.

The ongoing sizzling of seething you hear from folks who are still not over the fact Torvalds doesn't think crypto is very good? Priceless.

Elucidating,
@Elucidating@mastodon.social avatar

@bitprophet oh yeah, I should stipulate that on this platform. Good feedback.

Elucidating,
@Elucidating@mastodon.social avatar

@bitprophet honestly: I think my reach here is less technical than it was on Twitter and that's why it'd make sense to qualify it more tightly.
