7 April 1772 François Marie Charles Fourier was born. An influential early socialist thinker & one of the founders of utopian socialism. Fourier is credited with having originated the word feminism in 1837.

2 April 1841 Clément Ader was born. He became an engineer who built the Avion III flying machine in 1897. This bat-like machine briefly took off before returning to Earth. It predated the airplane made by the American Wright brothers by 6 years.

31 March 1596 René Descartes was born. A French philosopher, mathematician, scientist and lay Catholic who invented analytic geometry, linking the previously separate fields of geometry & algebra. He is credited with inventing modern European philosophy & algebraic geometry

28 March 1862 Aristide Briand was born. He served 11 terms as Prime Minister. In 1926, he jointly received the Nobel Peace Prize for the Locarno Treaties, which aimed at reconciliation between France & Germany after WW1. To avoid another worldwide conflict he supported the Kellogg–Briand Pact of 1929, as well as working to establish a "European Union" in 1929. His efforts were compromised by the rise of nationalistic & revanchist ideas like Nazism & Fascism following the Great Depression.

20 March 1811 Napoléon François Joseph Charles Bonaparte, aka Napoléon II, was born. He was a claimant to the French throne but the powers of Europe never let him ascend. He lived in exile in Vienna until he died at 21 of tuberculosis.
