@bike Have you seen Washington's? (Here: https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.61.110) You have to completely change lanes to pass. The kids in Driver's Ed are being taught this, so riding around the neighborhood when school gets out isn't terrifying. Adults are slowly learning, no doubt aided by my friend riding around with the "Chane Lanes To Pass" regulatory sign on the back of her cargo bike. :) We also got a new section with stiffer penalties. (We should thank @BarbChamberlain for her thoughtful, hard work.)

@enobacon My kid's middle school has a crossing guard, but not on the 4-lane arterial where the rapid flash beacons have been knocked over 6 times since they were installed in January.

I invite anyone who argues that are overkill to come live my life for a week. And I'll go live your life, in your superfit body that never sweats, on your awesome infrastructure that accommodates you and your kids, hauling around your weightless groceries.

You can live in my wonky middle-aged body still inflamed from , at the bottom of the hill my city is famous for, in heat and humidity, on roads that will get your kids killed if they're not strapped to you.

@DrTCombs @somcak @bikepedantic I don't like the Gen 2 as well as the Gen 1. It's heavier (e.g. solid running boards vs Gen 1 lower decks, metal fenders vs plastic), the suspension fork is not great (some having to rebuild after 600 mi!), it's more crank forward which doesn't work for me, the locking kickstand & saddle have known issues, and the price!

Rode the Big Dummy, which despite a freaking incredible build is just so slow. I guess I picked up a piece of glass because I got a nasty flat and because I rarely ride the bike I was utterly unprepared. I truly hate the anti-theft doohickeys on the stem, seat, and wheels, but I did dial in the saddle angle and my GSD saddle now has a home. It's probably cargo bike nerd sacrilege, but I'm not that in love with the Rolling Jackass kickstand.

@enobacon Schwalbe Big Bens at 35psi, at least until I caught that glass in which case I then swapped to a 650b knobbly mountain bike tire up front. I think I'd appreciate the RJA if I rode the bike loaded more. It's very stable in the garage where we pile it with shit and lean other bikes against it.

In fairness, the bike isn't that slow, it just FEELS slow. Possibly more so now that I only ride my GSD on Sport & Turbo. I averaged these speeds when I used to ride the GSD on Eco.

@enobacon I've only ridden my Fuji Rakan 29er MTB and my road bike, neither of which are apt comparisons. Also, the wind was blowing pretty well yesterday. I am sure that it just feels slow because it's like riding a bus.

Last day of . The kid's biking all the way home on her own for the first time.

We've been practicing for this day for weeks. She knows the rules, knows how to handle her bike, knows to look out for drivers because they're not looking out for her.

We can do this.

If you are out on the roads this afternoon, PLEASE keep your eyes peeled for happy kids about to embark on the best summer of their lives.

@DrTCombs She will be fine, but I'll be thinking of you. My kid is older and has less challenging roads to cross and I won't let him do it alone yet. His friends that do ride the sidewalk until they are across those roads, but my kid won't do that; he's always learned to bike on the street properly.

Man I really need to stop going on Facebook, which is sadly a place where my community does a lot of announcing about events and causes etc and I sometimes just have to go there. But the cognitive dissonance of seeing so much happy family stuff interspersed with so much soft bigotry & weird memes really scrambles my brain and then I can’t stop thinking about it and feeling resentful and confused

@seachanger It truly sucks how small communities have foregone all previous organizing methods and concentrated it in Facebook. I run social media for a bike coop and all other channels have dried up/been rendered ineffective. The only other channel that works is flyers in the library or hosting events in the library that the library promotes on their Facebook page. At least I unfollowed almost all my connections so I don't see too much awful stuff.

@seachanger Hospitals wouldn't make huge losses if they didn't over-charge the uninsured and then write off their unpaid bills. I'll never forget when my grandmother and I received the same prescription, for me, with insurance, it was $2. For her, uninsured, $200.
