Hello @Jain ,
I would like to confirm a certain emoji is coming from your server.
Some remote servers claim that usage of :blobcatnotlikethis: is permitted by Apache-2.0 license, and it seems the source of the emoji is your server.
Is that true? May I use that emoji under same condition too? If not, please respond me with the difference and/or reason.
Thank you for reading.
Looks like a certain Post of a Person got reported multiple times. Let me clarify some things.
Someone made a script which builds a blocklist based on public Profile Informations on Fedi Users.
Imho is that something what a person can do, i have no problems with and neither blob.cat must have anything to do with this.
Yesterday this person wrote a post and tagged all the blocked accounts to see if this works or not. This person assumed that the post would not be sent at all, but it was.
This is stupid because it now looks like a call-out list. I discussed it with this person and today i deleted the post too mainly due to the following reasons:
If a random User replies to that certain post, this will trigger a hellthread
It is not ok that the result of this action is a call out list
The personal block list is nobody's business.
There will be no action on my part, because even in the worst case, if one assume that this person deliberately wants to cause harm with that post, it amounts to an offense for which I do not kick a person from this instance.
In general, I have very limited interest in the mdni/dni situation and I don't have a strong opinion on it. However, if someone feels the need to block others based on their profile describtion, then from my point of view, this is something a person can and should do.
Anyone who wants to criticize me is welcome to get in touch
@darkphoenix@sam :blobcatsmug:
now for real, i think i should clarify some things: a private csv built by hand with a bunch of handles and the relevant profile text for the cause is imho not something that should escalate like this. Of course people have different opinions, but in this case I see no reason to worry by far...
@darkphoenix@sam as far as i understand, dont catch me up on that, is to collect indicators for that MDNI thing...
like emojis, text variations (like "MDNI" or "M-DNI" or whatever) and stuff that indicates if someone likes to interact with minors.
It can be that in the end a filter on the Client will be built or other stuff...
But the post was based on the assumption that blocked accounts are not tagged. In other words, nobody (except for one person, unfortunately) was notified.
The answer to their post is also rather bad, but if you put it in the context that this person has just at that moment realized what they are doing and what could result from it, then i see it as a try to down play it in some sort of coping mechanism. I don't see anything to worry about in the future, mistakes can happen.
(remember when mia flooded the network and accidentally ddosed servers? the situation here doesn't even come close to that)
just suspended a remote user for gathering a database of MDNI users, and then harassing those MDNI users in a giant hellthread
their original stated intention was to create a tool which automatically blocked accounts in the database they created. this could be used by minors to block any users that are MDNI. however, this is just as impractical as a standard fediblock list: the list needs to be actively maintained, checked for positives, etc. and it would also provide a simple list of people to harass for those who are anti-MDNI to use, as we just observed in the situation that sparked this mod vent.
a better solution would be to create a plugin similar to @ChaosKitsune 's pronoun plugin, which scans a bio for "MDNI", and then either filters that from the timeline, or places a notice next to their name. a much better and easier to implement solution.
