The problem with that is that will cause areas to drive up housing prices to expand the untaxed group to general more “upper middle class” to price out undesirables and draw in higher earners as a form of tax break. This already happens without the tax bracket scaling and would probably get 10x worse.
I don’t have a great alternative, but maybe a weighted CoL combined with 0% below median income in the district? Something like that, but that would probably cause low CoL areas to pay way more taxes. Maybe I am thinking of it wrong.

I am looking for new productivity tool and found Leantime. It looked interesting, but I found some conflicting information about what features the selfhosted version contains. Does it contain all features or only core features?How is it as productivity tool and would you recommend some alternative?
I currently use Trillium Notes and Super Productivity for planning projects and time tracking.
Kanban, Gantt charts, milestones, idea collections, file uploading, retrospectives, time tracking, documentation, etc… all supported with the selfhosted version.
These are the “premium” features:
Custom fields
Pomodoro timer
Whiteboard
Program plans (I really don’t understand what is different about this than goals + milestones + documentation + tasks)
Strategies (pretty much just collecting and categorizing goals it seems)
I hope they don’t remove features and make people pay for them. It has plenty of features to make it useful now, but if they start removing them, then I think i will have to find another solution.
Eh, Chromecast has AV1 and so do some smart TVs already. If that is your primary watching platform, encode away in AV1 and get an Arc A380 for the rest. It will also massively decrease encoding times.

Integrating wireless radios into products is standard by now and chips required to do anything but 5g are extremely cheap. GPS is also dirt cheap. The biggest costs by far are design hours and certification.
Then they can make money because of the software “features” that only take man hours to develop as well as sell your tracking days after the fact. Together with the fact that if the market says that most people want those convenience features and couldn’t care less about their valuable data as we have seen through every tech industry, there is little reason NOT to put in those features, especially when it enables OTA car firmware updates also.
The problem is that for most self-hosters, they would be working and unavailable to do a graceful shutdown in any case even if they had a UPS unless they work fully from home with 0 meetings. If they are sleeping or at work, (>70% of the day for many or most) then it is useless without graceful shutdown scripts.
I just don’t worry about it and go through the 10 minute startup and verification process if anything happens. Easier to use an uptime monitor like uptimekuma and log checker like dozzle for all of your services available locally and remotely and see if anything failed to come back up.
Yeah, i have been using nextcloud for 4 years or so. Never had an actual breaking bug. 28.2. Nextcloud will simply not work anymore. It has 0 error messages in the log, everything will initialize, but I simply can’t connect and log in to it. The log in screen does not show up.
Not only that, but when I leave it running now, it literally almost brings down my entire reverse proxy stack and I can’t access anything from the outside world without a 30 second delay.

Hard agree. I love jellyfin and use it exclusively, but getting hardware acceleration working is a mess, the movie and show selection UI is really written by a developer and is very basic and 2010ish.
Android apps like Findroid really improve this, but the webUI and androidTV/chromecast UI really need an overhaul.
Intel Arc GPU. Had to enable a few modules, reboot, debug, follow the jellyfin docs for writing to some configs, reboot, didn’t work. Follow the error messages which are pretty much useless, get pointed to stuff that isn’t relevant. Finally someone on a forum had a good reply where they told me I have to download the entire linux proprietary firmware directory, extract the i915 folder from it, and plop it in my firmware folder and reboot. Then everything loaded and hwacceleration worked.

I fail to see it. It doesn’t protect against any physical attacks at all, and it also doesn’t protect against attacks while the system is powered on.
It seems to only protect against the attack of someone stealing your hard drive out of your system but leaving the entire system behind. Maybe for encrypting extra data drives that will want to be resold later? But that is more a datacenter threat model
