I take my 13yo #podcast episodes, some of which we recorded over Skype and sound pretty janky, run them through #LogicPro’s #StemSplitter, isolate the voices and process them through the #Adobe#EnhanceSpeech tool, then re-integrate it replacing the original voices and it actually sounds pretty good.
AI tools have their place (just probably not as information repositories.)
(Needless to say, I don’t have the original master recordings anymore.)
I took a nap earlier and had a dream. Apparent metal thieves got into my backyard and stole the fence around my pool.
When I went to look, in amazement at their audacity, I realized they’d stolen the whole in-ground diving pool, too, and completely filled it and landscaped.
Here’s the part where it gets so crazy you know it’s a dream: for some reason, I was upset by this!
Do you know what it costs to get rid of a pool? I’d be overjoyed in real life.
“Quite likely, but I throw all fliers, unread, into the recycling. It’s really horrible how much waste companies that send fliers generate for no good result, isn’t it?”
“…um, company is…” (A double-“um” in 1 sentence. Always a win.)
“Look, stop right there. I never, ever, ever purchase anything from a filer or someone going door-to-door. I research and pick companies, I don’t let them pick me.”
“Oh, we’re not selling anything…”
“Oh, that’s different. I won’t waste any more of your valuable time. Good luck just telling others you’re working in the neighborhood. Good bye.”
(He interrupted a game of Call of Duty, so I was a bit snarked to begin with.)
“I pledge to use and internalize the Metric System in my own life wherever possible, so long as it does not impact safety. Further, I will not make it easy for others to cling to outdated measurement systems.”
Watched #Argylle last night. Can understand why it may have underperformed with theatre audiences and critics. Not unenjoyable, but a bit of a hot mess, structurally.
Genuinely surprised that the trailers didn’t give away everything.
I’ll maintain that it’s too damned long for a theatre viewing, and the wrong TYPE of movie. Should have been a 90-minute light comedy/action/romance romp. Not a 2.5 hour ramble.
So, Weee! (https://www.sayweee.com/en) is an Asian grocery delivery service. (Probably not very carbon-friendly.) They deliver a lot of goods difficult, if not impossible to find in #Phoenix, but they also (apparently) listen.
I ordered Chashu from them a while back but, being frozen, large, and uncut it was problematic if you’re just making a single bowl of ramen.
I left a review of the chashu and pointed out how inconvenient the packaging was and, now, they’re selling it in smaller, pre-sliced packaging. Full marks.
Many details to square away, but No. 1 Offspring, having completed their university degree, and with no immediate prospects for gainful employment beyond McDonald’s, has opted to go live with their grandparents in #Taiwan for up to a year and participate in the government-endorsed (?) Mandarin language learning program.
At age 4 on a 3-month visit to #Taiwan, No. 1 was in a preschool program and, after a couple weeks switched to speaking Mandarin like a light switch was flicked on.
That has long since faded away through disuse, but I suspect, it might come back under immersion conditions with instruction.
